Hi GP and chums,
Oh, I got some courgettes in the aldee S6 - they were 69p though, not 59p as had been mentioned on another section of the forum - that were grown in Worcestershire, UK :j:j Now, unless little_sweetie is leading a drive for
independance - I believe that I have bought British produce today :j As it should be, given that our climate grows
courgettes..... and.... gasp,shock,horror..... it is the season for
courgettes..........
Well done , Greying, and no... I'm quite happy to be British! :rotfl::rotfl:
Mr little_sweetie ate your sushi with relish & sprinted back here it seems, 'cos he's been driving me mad again today. He insisted on coming food shopping with me and with the poor state of the finances until the end of the month that definitely wasn't a wise move to let him  We came home with stuff we didn't need and came without stuff we did need IYSWIM  Much creativity required with this weeks menu plan methinks. And it's too darn HOT to THINK.

Good Morning :hello:
All is well - don't worry about meI'm filling my days trying to fit a Quart into a pint pot and it's leaving me tired (or is that just the heat?) and with not a lot to say.... on second thoughts, Greying with nothing to say?????..... CALL THE DOCTOR!!!!! :rotfl:[JOKE
]
The upshot is, I can claim two NSD's. Food has been unexciting, as I've been too hot/tired to eat muchBut DP has not been allowed to go hungry
:D
Thanks for popping by, reading and commenting. Gotta dash.
See y'all later.

Glad you're all right GP. Yep, very humid weather lately!
I have been rushing around too. Had a bit of a yoghurt fail at the weekend as my starter looked a bit too far gone, so I've made some paneer again instead!Keep reading books!

Good Evening :hello:
satchmo - I'm glad that the peach idea worked for you. Tell me now, I've never used the flat/doughnut peaches - what is the stone like in them? If they are ripe, is it easy to remove?
Verbatim - I am glad that the peach idea was useful to you tooI regularly get that message from MSE - pays to copy your post before hitting send!
And I am entirely envious of the contents of your veggie patch
Thank you for popping in
moneyistooshorttomention - I used to have that book! I gave it away to the oxford famine charity years ago..... knowing my luck, I'd buy my own copy back for 1p + postage :rotfl: I gave it away, because I never cooked one thing from it, however, I cook very differently now to how I did when I had the book. It would be useful to get a look at it again and see what it was likeTa for popping by. Great to *see* you
supersaver - OUCH! But I bet the cauli 'n loadsa cheese was divine.........
Maryland Cookie - Bless ya
little_sweetie - July is seeming like a looooooonnnnngggg month from the bottom of my grocery bag tooBy the way - Worcestershire is obviously the place to be
Not only does your fair county manage to grow the exotic vegetable *courgette*, which cannot, if mand$ and mrW are to be believed, be grown outside of the fair island of Jersey....... But also, you have brilliantly priced fruit (not necessarily grown in your fair county, but still...) I was catching up with Sue at The Quince Tree Blog(I think Sue is/was Thriftlady on MSE), and she was talking about the grand price that she paid for apricots from her local farm shop - £1.95 a kilo!!! I saw some in our market today - for £2.95 a kilo - how can they be £1 dearer? Mind you, Sue outlines the prices the supermercados were charging too - phew! I reckon I'm moving to Broomfields Farm Shop - pronto!
wishus - love that you didn't let a little set back put you off. Bravo!
Today has been OK, but dare I break ranks from the stiff upper lip brigade and start the chorus of; 'it's too darn hot, it's too darn hot.... la la la (forgot a bit).... la, it's TOO. DARN. HOT!
I have inadvertently scored a NSD today, as I went out at lunch with the intention of getting the TV mag, got waylaid in the market - tutting!:rotfl: - came a different way back, and totally missed out the newsagents.......... :rotfl: Am I safe to be let out by myself is the question, Dear Reader..... :rotfl:
I forgot to mention, we did make it out for a picnic and a bit of adventurising on Sunday. It was a toss-up, after Saturday's wash out weather, as to whether we should have stayed at home and caught up with chores, but we decided to go. DP obviously got dressed in the dark as he went out with his *grumpy pants* firmly wedgied on....... *sigh* Still, grumpy g.i.t.s aside, we managed to have a lovely time. The first bit was by a river, and I managed to *sort of* see a bird that I had to look up to see what it might have been. There were some overgrown steps down to the waterside, and a small concrete pontoon. As I was walking down, a bird took off, literally from by my feet - so in effect, I was above it. I only saw it for a split second, but it was mottled brown/buff. It wasn't very big, but had a distinctive wing shape - like an M elongated, if you see what I mean, and it had a long beak. I don't know if EH is around at all, but going by the RSPB site, I'm wondering if it was a snipe? It was only small - and I thought that the Jack Snipe was a better bet, but they only come here in the winter, so I guess perhaps it was a juvenile snipe. Interesting though - to see something, look it up and discover something new
Our picnic was scoffed underneath an apple tree in the remains of an orchard. The bread was HM and chocolate buns were also snarfed. And yes, I am a *one trick pony* I wanted to make lemon drizzle cake, but didn't get the lemons in time to make the cake so that it had a day or two to get properly tastyMaybe next time
We also called in at a NT property on the way back. We didn't have all that long to look around, but the house was interesting, and the volunteers had done a splendid job on the garden, so we'll have to make a return journey to have another look around.
Dinner this evening was curry and rice. I was going to have a go at an egg curry, but I wondered about the *etiquette* that mouche talked about and wanted a lentil dish too - but wasn't too sure if a *protein* and a *lentil* dish was a no-no, so instead I opted for Madhur Jaffrey's Dalcha which uses lentils and courgettes and for Leon's Grated Beetroot Curry. I'm not convinced that the beetroot curry was better than the Rick Stein version - I'll have to check the ingredient similarities. However, it wasn't helped by the fact that the de-seeded green chilli that I used was HOT............ :rotfl: Just what was required eh? :rotfl:Picture here;
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
that someone knows Piq in *RL* and has let us know that she is well, and let her know that we're asking after her - :T
that I've been able to pick a couple more HG tomatoes this evening
that I managed to make dinner out of next to nought... - only another 9 days to go......... :rotfl:
How long is this month again? 30 days has September...... :rotfl:
Thank you for popping in, reading and commenting. Always appreciated.
See y'all later.

Still reading from distant shores(well France!) but back home sometime at the weekend and the MSEing begins with vengeance as we count up the Euros spent and save for the next holiday.....

Good Morning :hello:
Aw, sorry Beanielou - the shops would of been shut at that time too
satchmo - thanks for that, I'll give 'em a go if I see some for a fair price
Busymumof3plusdog - *from our very own correspondent in mainland Europe.....*So the bit of France that you are in, how are the prices comparing to the UK? Are they dearer all round? Or are they about the same, but the exchange rate mucks it up? Or are there plenty of markets where fresh produce is in abundance for fair prices? We shall welcome you back to the bosom of Blighty when you see fit to return
Even if you are thinking about 'trading us in'.... sniff
Well, Wednesday's here again.
I shall endeavour to remember to buy the TV mag today, so it will not be a NSD
Dinner this evening will be dependent on whether the avocados ripen a bit more in the day. With the heat as it is at the moment, anything is possibleWhat I want to try to avoid, is losing any fruit because they've over-ripened from the inside, yet remained rock hard on the outside
I shall be declining to buy anymore avocados from mrM is that proves the case - I can't afford to compost food, and I've never had it happen with mrL avocados - but then they are double the price
Right, best shift a tail-feather and get up and at 'em. Snap bags are packed and ready to go. Best make sure I follow suit

Hey up love.
Its hot here too (although not today, today its grey and misty) - hey ho never happy eh.
Re the snipe. If it was 'unfluffy' aka not looking like a juvie and wee, maybe a jack snipe. I've seen one once (on me desk, long story) and its stripe was very distinctive and almost yellow custard colour. But so much smaller than a normal snipe.
I wonder if that was it - but I'm nae as gud as that hebridean lass.
July IS a long month and I'm sympathising with the 'grumpy pants' and the cheese swiping above.
I seem to have both species of males with that description here on and off.
Have a great day and try not squish a quart into a pint pot for too much longer, I'm sure that will get messy.
PS curry looked lush.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Morning,GP  and chums,
little_sweetie - July is seeming like a looooooonnnnngggg month from the bottom of my grocery bag tooBy the way - Worcestershire is obviously the place to be
Not only does your fair county manage to grow the exotic vegetable *courgette*, which cannot, if mand$ and mrW are to be believed, be grown outside of the fair island of Jersey.......
Well it just shows what they know, GP, my neighbour has some beautiful courgettes growing in a pot on the patioIn fact, I have serious courgette envy, yes, I know I have parsnips growing and she doesn't but still...
Thanks for the info re The Quince Tree blog I will definitely take a look at that. Unfortunately, we live in a tiny village so have little access to some of the lovely farm shops around. The Postmaster sometimes has locally grown tomatoes and some veg which I buy but if we travel a bit we can pick our own strawberries, blueberries and raspberries ....yum! (have to cost the petrol in though) I did have some strawberries left on my own plant until a couple of weeks ago. We went out, came home and they had gone!I think I know who took them and it could be the same person who stole all the ripe figs from another neighbour's bush last year and left a packet of fig biscuits hanging in their place. NOT funny....
Hope all is well with you today and that the 'grumps' have gone....mine is still in bed! :rotfl::rotfl:
It looks like another hot, sunny day here today. Didn't know what to eat yesterday (we had ordinary salad) and don't know what to have today either. It's too hot to cook and too hot to eat. We are never satisfied
