Good morning, Little Sweetie, yes, yum, bring cake! you are welcome, with or without it, as are you all! there is no dress code, so wear what you want, there will be a dress-up box available for try ons and accessories, but no karaoke machine.
Round at DSIL and brothers house yesterday, and was amazed to see a group of seagulls seeing off a buzzard, fantastic sight.
Then out for a bar meal with DS2 and 2 of his friends to celebrate his birthday. Not frugal, but very very nice, and a doggy bag which will make tonights dinner. He celebrates the big 40 next year, (yes, l was a child bride, lol).
Now, need to make coffee, and check job list for the day. xxxxx0 -
Good Morning :hello:
beanielou - ta for the *heads up* regarding the washing up liquid. DP was tasked with getting it, so we have the Ald! version insteadAnyway, thank you for popping in - hope you are well?
satchmo - I hope that your interview was a success - do let us know how you got onI think the question posed was to do with freezing milk? Which you did respond to, so thank you for that
rtandon & little_sweetie - you're both stars :T
supersaver - you don't have to tie yourself in knots reporting a harvest to meBut I do like to hear what everyone is growing - and I rather suspect next year is going to be gardening central on this thread, as Pipster gets into her stride
mrsinvisible - how can you have a 39 year old son? I can see *quite clearly* from here, and you don't look a day over 21 yerselfAs do we all
Well, milk and washing up liquid was purchased by DP yesterday, so can't claim a nsdWe had a simple cheese and tomato pizza for dinner, as there wasn't anything else
I didn't even bother taking a pic, as it was so 'ordinary'. Still, it had risen well in the heat, and it tasted ok, so not actually any 'hardship'
Whilst we were eating it, we got around to watching that documentary about children in poverty. I'm not too sure when it was on, and I'm not sure how long it was supposed to be, as I suspect the start had been cut off by the recorder. But what we saw was heart breaking enough
Children should be allowed to be children for as long as possible, those little dears were wise beyond their years
The one lady was spending more on gas/electric per week than we do in a month - but of course, she was on a prepay system, and as she said, it cost her more
You can't break the cycle, as you can never get ahead
At least donating to a food bank is a practical way to help, and food banks work.
We were also able to say 'stood there', 'ate our picnic there' whilst watching Gardeners World, as we went to Kilver Court earlier this year. And Joe is right - those roses smell gorgeous and I'm chuffed that I now know what varieties they are - Gertrude Jekyll and Blue for You. Sadly, the camera didn't capture the true colour of the roses, they are stunning. Sad too that they didn't visit the veg garden - it's tucked out of the way, but it would have been nice to show it, as it is a community garden.
Well, I suppose I'd better shift a tail-feather, I've a list of chores a mile long
Dinner this evening will be avocado based, as not only have 2 deigned to ripen, but if I'm not quick, they'll have gone overAnd I refuse to put any more avocados in the compost - they're terrible at rotting down for one thing!
Have a good day, one and all.
Thank you for popping in, reading and commenting. As ever, mucho appreciated. By me
See y'all later.

Satchmo - I am such a plank  I totally missed that you got the keys to your new apartment yesterday! Sorry
Are you going to move in bit by bit? Or in one fell swoop? I can't quite remember whether the rental apt is in the same building? So it could be quite easy or quite a faff I suppose. Anyhoo, Good Luck in Your New Home
Ay up brizzie - I think any foodie related *doings* this weekend will be working out how to make it s-t-r-e-e-e-e-t-c-h like a luscious piece of mozzarella:rotfl: Actually, that is not strictly true. I have made some bread dough - should have done it last night really
- and I will be shaping that into rolls just now. We're pondering  on a picnic tomorrow. We shouldn't really, as we've way too much to do at the homestead. But we've got to attend a family get together, and so we're wondering whether to take in a NT property, have a picnic lunch and then move on to the do itself. I'm pretty sure that the do will involve food - although its at a bit of a funny time, not lunch not dinner, so bases need to be covered
Also, whilst I'm sure veggies will be catered for (if we are to have food), I've been around long enough to know that the veggie stuff gets snarfed by the meat-eaters. The best one was at a wedding, where we'd actually been specially catered for only to find when we went up to the buffet (last table) all the veggie food had been given out to folk who decided that they 'didn't like' the meat option, but did like the look of the veggie option....... :rotfl:

Hi GP
Never been to Kilver Court but it looked lovely. It would have been great to take a peep at the veg plot...shame...
Re fruit doing strange ripening things: I have a bag of pears which I bought on Monday for 99p from Mr M. They were rock hard so I put 2 in the fruit bowl to ripen and the rest in the fridge. I tried one from the fruit bowl yesterday. It was still rock hard although the colour had changed to 'ripening' IYSWIM but on biting into it I discovered it was going bad from the inside out  I tried the other one...same result...what's that all about? Now do I keep on trying 'em or chuck 'em
Now despite being roasted here (no RAIN) I need to make some dinner. OH is working until 8pm so will need sustenance when he returns. I have found a tin of cider [STRIKE]hidden[/STRIKE] tucked away in the cupboard
and I have assorted bits of veg and a scrap of cheese so it's veggie hotpot, I think. If I cook it now I can eat mine and re-heat OH's later in the microwave. Lawks it's too hot...(walks away muttering)
Hope all is well at Greying Towers. Have a great day tomorrowSealed Pot Challenge #012

Good Evening :hello:
Went the day well with you Dear Reader? Ha, it just shows that humankind is probably connected by some invisible thread or something. I was just over on Tilly's thread, to see that she had something for dinner that we had too:D Mind, Dear Till's got the benefit of home grown, so I'm betting hers was super lush
beanie - it has, but I'm sure that I read on here that the larger bottles (which don't display the award rosette) were a different formula and are *thinner* than the small bottles and don't last as long  I keep meaning to get a little bottle to do a comparison, as when I first started using it, it lasted aggeeessss, but seems to get used in a flash now. But perhaps we are just super hygienic people....... :rotfl:
little_sweetie - it is my understanding that pears naturally ripen from the inside out, which is why it is such an experience when you have a *on point* ripe pear to eat
You ought to have a day trip out to Kilver Court - its right opposite a cider factory! And anyone who was around in the 1970's will recognise the *tiara-red* bambi-esque character on the factory wallNot only is it a garden, but it is an designer outlet village. There is a cafe and a deli too. Roger (Saul) grows spelt, and there are plenty of his products to buy in the *farm* shop. The shops and the cafe are free to go around, the gardens are £5 to get in. Comparable with other gardens, but a little on the pricey side, as they are not huge - which makes it even more imperative that you get to see the kitchen garden too! DP and I managed to not be seduced by the designer stuff, as unfortunately, the *discounted* prices were more than we would pay anyway........ Have a looksee Just down the road in June you get to see all the tents and the paraphernalia of Glastonbury
Well, I managed a NSD today, but given that I have not left the homestead, that was not hard
I made bread rolls, and they turned out OK, despite not having an overnight rise in the fridge. I made it using some spelt flour... now, wonder where I got that from :think:Hope they taste good - I must admit, the last time I used spelt they did
I have also made a lemon cake - but realised I had very little sugar left ..... I've used honey, but the truth will be in the tasteI was about 4oz short
.........
Dinner this evening was a version of Tricolour avocado bake with a selection of salads. I've made the avocado dish before, I base it on THIS recipe but use feta instead. And this time, I used a small amount of ratatouille that had made it into the freezer - too little for a dish on its own, but useful in this dishWe also had the potato salad out of the meat free Monday cookbook - made with tinned pots, as that was all that I had. A carrot, orange, walnut and sunflower seed salad, which was a made up on the spot with what I had affair. Was delish though
And then I quickly boiled up some frozen peas and drained then, tossed in loads of fresh HG mint, salt, pepper, oil and a dash of balsamic. No way would they be as nice a Tilly's HG peas, but they were ok - pea and mint is a good combo
Picture here;
Tonight I am only going to express my gratitude for one thingI found out today that someone who had a very great (positive) impact on my life - a long time ago - died almost a year ago. They lived elsewhere on the planet, and although we were in contact for many years, we had lost touch in the last 5+ years, so it is no surprise that I didn't get to know until now. However, I guess the power of the internet to inform you of all manner of things should be acknowledged.
So tonight I would like to express my gratitude for the life of *C*. I benefitted from their mentoring for about 4 months, and it is no exaggeration to say that my life was transformed through meeting them. Many other people would be able to express the same sentimentI am sad that they have left us - way too early - and that my promise to *return* to see them and have DP meet them can now never take place. But my life is richer because of them. And for that I remain entirely grateful.
RIP *C*
