Good afternoon, sorry haven't posted for a while, but have been reading every day. Lovely pics of food as ever, GP, glad the spontaneous picnic was a success. Does a salad bun eaten in the garden qualify as a picnic? oh, well, it was still tasty and peaceful and... warm!
How very dare people steal the crop you grew, makes you sooo vexed.
I'd be tempted to put up a sign saying that the crop had been treated with something that rendered it dangerous to eat , and advising the thief not to eat the produce, (in the hopes that they had, and were worried, also might prevent them doing it again!)
My fave cousins daughter, aka my neice (even if she strictly isn't) called yesterday, full of wedding plans and angst, she left with a mini greenhouse, a pepper plant, a chili plant, some courgettes and strawberries, in a much mellower frame of mind. We are going to do posh afternoon tea (cups, with saucers) in 2 weeks time, as a second 'hen-type do'.
Now off to scout round my neighbours back gardens, to see if my garden wheelie bin is lurking, mrs I goes meandering off humming tunelessly and 'we're going on a BIN hunt'.0 -
What a good idea re the notice Mrs I that would put the wind up them! :rotfl::rotfl:And how lovely that your visitor left in a calmer frame of mind than when she arrived and bearing growing gifts

Good Evening :hello:
Forgivz me if you cannot ere ziz, I am tipping vary quitlee, soas nut to awayken 'OpefulJoyz who by now is slipping........
Verbatim - clever onboard computers are all very well, I mean, I suppose 'limp mode' is better than 'kaput' but still........
little_sweetie - that is just it isn't it? In the UK starvation is not unknown, but if you were starving, I'm not entirely sure that figs and alpine strawberries would be your first port of call. I think I'd chance doing a runner after ordering the 'full-english' in a transport caff if I was hungry......
wishus - I hope that the wonderful posts made here by the gang are helping - you contribute as well, you know
Ellidee - how did you know that was how we undertook our nature rambles? 'Oh look, there's a toad crossing our path' *Splat* 'Oh look there was a toad crossing our path' :rotfl: And here was me worrying about editing out norty graffiti on the picnic tables, and all the time you were seeing entrails and eyeballs :rotfl::rotfl:norty Ellidee :rotfl:
mrsinvisible - of course you had a picnic!One day I will get to do the same
I'm glad that you have spent quality time with your cousin's daughter. Glad that you calmed her too. Weddings can be stressful times........
So, I can claim a NSD today :j
I don't think much else of note happened - very Thursdayish Thursday tbh
Dinner this evening made up best use of what I had available, whilst trying to keep the 'summer food' vibe alive and kickingIn the end, I followed THIS recipe quite closely, but also took inspiration from THIS blog post/recipe. The resultant love child/plate of scram therefore looked like this;
I liked the mix of dried mung beans and french beans, and I really liked the pickled red onion - *fast* pickling is really getting my voteHowever, I was less enchanted with the other spices that Yotam included in the recipe. I see what route he was on, but for me, it didn't gel. Although I will freely admit that I forgot to add coriander (only have frozen) to the dish. But if I made it again, I would experiment with a whole different set of spices. I hadn't got a lime, so as it only serves as an accent, I used a lime leaf with the garlic/ginger/spice mix. This worked well, there was a definite citrus vibe to the dish - which was good. The lime leaf got taken out after flavouring the oil, as the lime zest would.
All stuff that I had in cupboards, the fridge or the freezer, and not a lot of pennies to get it to the table
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
that I managed to stretch the pennies a little further again today -
that this thread covers a myriad of topics and is supported by such a wonderful group of folk - Thank you
that an awkward situation has been avoided - DP & I will be free to do what we want to do, rather than what we would be expected to do
Thank you so much for popping in, reading and commenting. Always appreciated.
See y'all later.

Interview at 1pm for a 30 hour job that's worthwhile and matches my skill set - wish me luck?
Paid for our new apartment in full yesterday: we collect the keys today!
DH's turbo-diesel car also went into limp home mode during fast drive to meet mum and sister for "memory clinic" appointment for mum, but they knew I'd join them a few minutes after the start time. Thankfully, DS2 (at 30 years old) is newly-trained car mechanic in an informal apprenticeship so he's sorting it (radiator) out for me.
Thankfully, also, I haven't yet sold my car, so transport available for interview. DS2 jump started it yesterday as it hadn't been driven for a while.
Off to the hairdressers now, to temporarily tame my wild hair.
I'm sure you asked me a question GP, but I can't remember if it got an answer, sorry.What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
