Ooh sushi. Lovely. I have 2 tubes of wasabi in the fridge. I bought one, lost it so bought another and then the first turned up. Will have a go at HM this weekend. Sadly no HB near us (unless it's homebase) and I've no idea about B&M. I guess I could look in pound land or stretcher.
I think it looks fab.:)

Hello there chums! I wrote a long post last night and must have pressed the wrong button! You have been saved from my ramblings as a result. The wonderful cookbook I got from the library is 'Middle Eastern Cookery' by the late Arto Der Haroutunian. You probably know him already but he is new to me and he writes not just as a cook but as a historian and lover of all things Middle Eastern.
Life is quite positive but challenging at hopefuljoy camp so I haven't commented recently. Welcome to newbie josh though! My son took unpaid work to secure an apprenticeship. Not through the govt but by talking his way in. After a two week trial he was taken on. Anything is worth a try and you seem the type of man who could impress a potential employer. I used to be an HR Manager and I was always impressed with people like you who were positive and kept going. You will get there!
I hope you are all well. I have a fiver left for food until the end of the month and am menu planning tomorrow! DD and I drive to the south of France to stay in a tent for two weeks next Friday and I've saved the petrol and food and toll money we need. If all goes to plan this will be the first holiday in seven years which doesn't send us spiralling into debt!
Love to you all and 'see' you tomorrow! With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

ps, about 30 years ago I used to make up the sandwiches each week and freeze them, then take them out each morning. Can't imagine they were very savoury - I guess they were plain cheese or ham (or both) maybe with slaw.OSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10

sushi hmmm need to practice that as dgd loves it, never even thought about a diy version, luvverly.
Got great nephew again for a couple of hours yesterday, so am quite hugged up, he is a wee poppet.
DGS last day at primary today, big day, seems like only yesterday, etc, etc,! but he has a2 week boot camp/summer school at his new secondary school starting on Monday so we will see how that goes.
My neighbour/friends daughter is 18 this weekend so l am invited to the barbeque tonight, must get card today and rescue an appropriate gift from the 'stash' .
Mouldy bread, thanks for the tip, Sick of throwing the stuff away.0 -
Good Morning :hello:
WOW!So many visitors - HELLOOOOOO
INOD - I'm of the opinion that we are so moulded in what we eat by our childhood experiences. I used to hate broad beans, as we had to eat HG ones as children - big leathery things the size of a £2 coin. Since being an adult and growing my own, and knowing how sweet and lovely they can be, they are now my absolute favourite bean. Even the frozen ones I buy now, are better than what we had at homeAnd it's taken DP a lot to get over the prejudice of eating seaweed as it smells 'fishy' - he was forced to eat fish when he was young.......
supersaver - I have used wasabi from HB - phew! I didn't have any this time, but luckily the pickled ginger was fiery enough, so we didn't need it. If I'm honest, I didn't miss the wasabi...... thanks for popping in - love how life is turning a corner for youKeep on keeping on
:D
HopefulJoy - hoorah! I have Arto's Veggie book of Middle-Eastern Food - brilliant.
Have a wonderful hols - it's ACE that you will be totally self-financed - the hols will be even more enjoyable :j
And thank you for your supportive words to NewbieJosh - very kind
wishus - loving that the oats/mince worked for you :j
brizzle - *Greying scuttles off to look up Totaranui.......* Squee!!! How lovely brizzle! And there is a campsite there - we could go on an MSE adventureWho will bring the stove? Who will bring the pressure cooker? Who has made MemoryGirl's *Haybox* cooker and can bring that along......... :rotfl:
DIY buffet = great idea, your DD's will love itAlthough learn from my mistake, and get yourself some sort of plastic covered rolling mat - don't try to do without if you are making Californian rolls :rotfl:
mrsinvisible - if you can pick up the ingredients relatively cheaply in somewhere like B&M or HB, then this is a good dish - and of course, there is nothing to stop anyone using tinned tuna or whatever they fancy - doesn't have to be veggie - the internet has lots of suggestions. But I know that MSE'rs are intelligent enough to only use the best fresh raw fish/sushi grade, due to health concerns - but as far as I'm concerned, MSE'rs common sense is an absolute given in that departmentHurrah for MSE'rs :j
Well, Friday is here again.
I've a busy day to set to. And I've no idea what is for dinnerThe creativity is definitely going to have to start setting in now
I'm not going to harness myself to get a NSD today, as if nothing else, I do need the TV guide. I'm not sure I'll drop on any YS'd bargains, Friday isn't normally a good day. Ah well, I'll figure something.
Right, snap boxes to attend to, so I'll love and leave ya
Have a great day one and all.
Thanks so much for popping by, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.

Was an amazing article on the difference between 'frugality' and being 'cheap' which I found fascinating. :money:
I will link it if anyone wants to see it.
Yeah I really hope an apprenticeship comes through, however, in this economic climate money's tight for a lot of trades men and even large businesses so it's hard for someone like me, who hasn't got any qualifications apart from a level 2 in food safety in catering. However, I am still waiting on my exam results.
It seems that gone have the times where grades were really important, they still are, but employers seem to take preference over a candidate with experience nowadays
Goodluck on the exams!
If you'd not mind a wee link to that article that be fabby.
Hello and thank you.
Now, to another pressing matter.
Greying - sushi looked immense.
I'm packing my spotted hanky and popping down til the nori runs out.
I've raked here I've nori, wasabi, all the gubbins aside sushi rice.
And here was me hoping for a NSD today.
I've risotto rice, but having tried subbing one for the other, it works to make risotto from sushi rice but not the other way round.
Hope your productive day is kind and your picnic abundant.
Love DIY buffets and picnics I does.
Re the rolling of the sushi - a clingfilmed tea towel does a grand job too when caught out with no mat.
And a bit mayo on the fingertips helps to stop the rice sticking when shoogling it into place.
