Good Morning :hello:
Well, I've a day on the homestead today, so I guess that is why I have decided to be up with the larks...........*sigh* :rotfl:
wishus - you've come to the right place here to update us on your baking endeavoursDo you participate in sealed knot events, or were you just a spectator?
mrsinvisible - how lovely to *see* yaOooo China how exciting. Aw to your grand daughter being upset though
little_sweetie - did you get the birthday card made?
supersaver - let us hope that shortie is indeed hale and hearty, and has just been too busy to provide us with an update..... Oh, and please, never apologise for *joining in* - not on this thread
Busymumofthreeplusdog - Mirabelle? They are plums aren't they? YUM! Pizza is sounding awesome too - are ferry fees to France very expensive?????? :rotfl:Oh, and as for expenditure on butter (croissants), chocolate and red wine, I think that constitutes *medical expenses* in France. Yup, pretty much sure of it.......:D
Well, yesterday went very well. I think we've been given a glimpse of the NT of the future......... Um, have to say, I'm not too sure it's for me, but I can see how it absolutely works for others. I got the impression that the baby was being thrown out with the bath water, but still.......
Oh, and if we bother to return to this venue in a few years time, I fully expect there to be an on-site B00ts, sainsbob's *local* and a St^rbuck$ - and possibly several other *carefully screened* and *selected* partners that *we* are working in collaboration with............ Remember you heard it here first, folks :cool::rotfl:
We found a good spot for our picnic lunch (there were loads of benches dotted about) and it was fantastic to see so many people had exactly the same idea - even though the restaurant/cafe and ice-cream queue were heaving at all timesAnd I must say, although the venue was clearly popular, and there were loads of people about, there were several times that (if you were open to it) it fell absolutely silent, apart from birdsong. It didn't last long each time, but to think you were in such a throng of humanity, it was very welcome
Apart from the fact that *me buns* turned out to be edible(I would have told you if they weren't
), yesterday's highlight turned out to be taking a pic of this fella;
I didn't realise it at the time, but it turns out it is a Wool Carder Bee. I have an identification leaflet of bees and hoverflies, and I must admit, I thought that the way it was behaving, it was a hoverfly. At one point, when I was trying to take it's photo, it hovered right in front of the camera lens! I got the shot - but it is so fuzzy, that it would only be me that knew that it was a bee who clearly liked being 'papped' :rotfl:But the description on the leaflet sums this fella up - the only bee with distinctive yellow spots on it's abdomen and visits downy leaf plants (note what it's sitting on) which it scrapes the hairs off to line its nest. wow!
Dinner last night was Californian Barley Bowl. Pic;
We ended up with a (small) avocado each, as they really are ripening quickly. Hope all that vit E smoothes away my [STRIKE]wrinkles [/STRIKE] laughter lines:D
I inadvertently got a NSD yesterday. There was actually nothing that I wanted to buy in the gift shop, and the lady doing the usual sale of raffle tickets (we usually just hand over a quid or two and don't bother with the ticket) was stuck out in the middle of the courtyard, and was so busy directing folk hither and yon all the time, that we missed to go back and see her to donate
I should bag another NSD today - especially if I get on with my chores
Dinner this evening will be utilising whatever needs using up*Twirly* to think about it yet - particularly if I am departing from the menu-plan
Right, I'm shuffling orf.
Thanks everso for popping by, reading, joining in and contributing to the conversation. I greatly appreciate it, and love how this thread undulates along
See y'all later.

No, I wasn't taking part in the re-enactment. My hubby used to do all that stuff though.Keep reading books!
August grocery challenge budget £150, £90.14 spent in total - £59.86 remaining.0 -
Oh my, wishus that is some bun
I know this is a daft question, but you have to remember I'm veggie
Were they intended as Breakfast muffins?, or am I correct in assuming that meateaters feel bacon is good any old time of the day?
Thanks Fortune - would you believe I had you in mind when I was taking the pic? There were, thankfully, plenty of honey bees about, as there were a couple of hives located nearby, but this insect caught my eye because of its unusual 'fluffy' black and white striped legs - almost as if it was wearing leg warmers. I'm really glad I persevered with taking a pic now, as i'm not sure that it is something that I have knowingly seen before
Hey INOD - and thanks
I'm pondering my next move, as I've not achieved overly much thus far. Ho hum. I'll have a baked tattie and see if that makes a difference

Afternoon all, sorry for not posting on Saturday about the eggs-periment (geddit?
) but, well..... the issues are still coming for us. I actually have to laugh really. It's the kind of stuff that I would think someone else was making up, lol...
I will have a proper catch up when I get home this evening as I'm just trying to catch a 5 min break in work
So not content with the finger-busting (which I asked A&E to check and it wasn't, thankfully) Mr Shortie got some sawdust/small wood chip in his eye that wouldn't come out so we were at A&E until 3am Saturday morning trying to dislodge the darned thing. I was then woken up early by a knock at the door so I was running on half steam on Saturday and at a friend's birthday 'do' Saturday evening (where my eldest promptly broken his glasses and we had to do a 'Jack Duckworth' to the frames - a new frame is now coming hopefully by this weekend) And I spent yesterday trying to catch up with stuff
So.... the egg...... hmmm - didn't go very well. The white was fab but the yolk was congealed. Eewww. I suggested to Mr Shortie that we try a gently beaten one next to see how that goes instead. Seeing the congealed mess though made me Google further and that's common apparently... I have then seen something about adding things to the egg before freezing so I think I need to go back to the drawing board before we try againApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
I've always wondered why they were called Wool Carder Bees - now I know :T
We have a mortar bee nesting in the extension wall at the moment. They are tiny and very sweet.
