Thank you sooooooooooo much for the belated National Day Wishes! It was a lovely sunny day spent mostly at home - after all who actually goes to work on their National Holiday?!? It was very :money: working on the budgets & juggling Pedro & Pablo to scrounge up the pennies! In the evening we attending a BBQ & had burgers, sausages, various salads & three types of CAKE! In fact our plates looked very much like your hommage to the neighbours to the south that you had for dinner last night. I was licking my lips while reading that post!
Have a lovely Saturday, depite the interesting weather! - our plans include carpet cleaning & decluttering as well as a bedroom tidy/overhaul!

Good Evening :hello:
little_sweetie - it is fair to say that I went to sleep the moment my head hit the pillow last night, and I stayed asleep until at least 6.30am, and even then, fell back asleep, so I am hopeful that my batteries are beginning to be recharged
rtandon - is it my imagination, or has more been in the media in the UK this year about Canada Day? I mean Clemency B-H mentioned it several times on R3 - they were playing music that somehow had a Canadian link - either the composer/conductor or player etc, I heard mention on some other radio programme, on the net, and possibly the funniest was someone yesterday, taking Stephen Fry to task on tw*tter for mentioning American Independence Day whilst *ignoring* Canada Day. His repost? "I hang my head in shame and maple syrup...." :rotfl: Chap's a genius!
Have you all had a brill day?
Ours has been good. DP has worked hard. I have worked much less hard, but had the onerous task of supervising............ :rotfl:
I did also catch a bit of the *Tour de Yorkshire*. Yorkshire, you looked beautiful, it was wonderful to see so many folk out and about cheering on the riders, although I'm not too sure about the blocking of the road to the extent that it stops the race......... I loved the bicycle riding sheep chalk drawing in Masham village square, for the local primary school - made meAnd OUCH Mr Cavendish, is all I can say, but bravo for wanting to finish in front of your home crowd, bravo indeed :T I did also like to see all the pictures of the decorated buildings, bunting and yarn bombing along the Tour route, that were featured on the TV whenever they went to an ad break - mucho hard work by the Yorkshire locals methinks. Pity that the yellow knitted jerseys had had to be removed in......?? Harrogate, or Ripon?? as some elfin safety bod had deemed them a risk if it rained.......
Those of you who have followed this diary for some time will know that one of the *many* things that went wrong last year was that I managed to clack (technical term) the glass panel on the front of the hob extractor unit in the kitchen. Wherupon it promptly flew off and smashed on the floorAt the time, we looked into replacing it, but as you'll understand, manufacturers don't let you replace parts anymore, no, you have to buy the whole unit..... *sigh*. Anyway, we now have saved the money for replacements/repairs, so today was the day that we got our replacement hob extractor unit. DP managed to fit it, as luckily, we had the original one done by an electrician, who wired it to work by plug, rather than hard wiring it into the electrical circuit (perhaps that is how they all work, I'm not sure ) Anyway, with a little bit of [STRIKE]swearing[/STRIKE] adjustment, DP has got the new unit in and actually it is better *hooked up* to the vent now, so it is a lot quieter and possibly has more suction?
DP also trimmed some branches from a neighbouring garden that have been plaguing us for sometime. The neighbour has been brilliant about it all, but has been rather slow in actually getting around to maintaining their tree. Still, they have been OK with DP doing enough to protect our boundary, so no complaints
We picked up a few items from the supermercados whilst out getting the extractor unit. I got everything that I needed, and I also bought some *sweet bite* peppers from mrT. They were YS'd to £1 from £2, and there were 16 in the bag. On hols, I had paid 10p each for them from the grocers, so I figured this was a bargain. Pity I couldn't have afforded more to freeze, as there were a number of bags there.
When DP had vacated the kitchen, I cleared up [he's a clean worker, but there was a bit of mess] and then set to making Broad Bean Kuku (Yotam Ottolenghi recipe) for dinner and some chocolate buns for our picnic tomorrowAnd for the record supersaver - BB Kuku was on the planner before I mentioned it to you the other day
:D
So dinner was;
That is Broad Bean Kuku (oven baked), with salad leaves, boiled potatoes and a sweet pepper salad. The potatoes are the same as I used last night - I got them YS'd in mrM last weekend. I think they are *old* rather than *new* potatoes, but with the mint tonight, they tasted really 'potatoey' if that doesn't sound too daft a thing to sayThe sweet pepper salad was a recipe off the internet. I'm unsure about it if I'm honest. It said to add caraway seeds, and as I have some, I did. However, caraway is actually a very sweet spice, and it did nothing for the peppers, except rather dominate
I'd give the salad a go again without caraway, but at the moment, remain unconvinced.
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
That DP is so capable and such a hard worker
For the Great British Public - who like to put on a *bit of a do* and do it so well
That *Team Greying* made discernible progress today
Thank you so much for popping in, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.

Good Morning :hello:
Ah, definitely starting to get enough Zed's each evening now :jWoke up actually feeling rested
We're off adventurising just now, going to visit a NT property, and, most importantly, TAKE A PICNIC :j:j:j (sorry for shoutingbut I love picnics
) And just for the record, we will be having HM chocolate buns - I do hope they don't turn out dry.... I will be so
:rotfl:
I won't set out to have a NSD, as there may well be something in the shop that catches our eye, and it's important to support the work of the trust, but I'll certainly aim for a LSD
Dinner this evening will probably be Heidi's Californian Barley Bowl as I've avocados that are ripening quicker than anticipated
Right, I've sandwiches to make (on HM bread, of course) and flasks to fill. So I best shake a tail-feather.
I hope that the Tour de France goes well again today - I think it is Yorkshire and Derbyshire that are showcasing their loveliness today. Go le Velo!! ('tis prolly 'la' - 'tis an age since I studied French:rotfl:)
Thanks for popping by, reading and supporting me. Always appreciated.
See y'all later.

Home-baking stuff for picnics makes them double-delicious in my book!
I did some baking yesterday - made some cheese and bacon muffins. Good cheap way of stretching out the bacon... but they got scoffed on the way round a medieval encampment at a re-enactment rather than a sit-down picnic thing. We didn't stick around for the battle as there was another event on we wanted to catch.Keep reading books!

Hi, l'm back from hollies in china, had a super-lovely-fabbydosie time, and even brought home half my anticipated spending money! That will come in handy for the slate chippings needed this year for 'garden phase 2' . Downside? granddaughter was heartbroken when l had to leave for the airport.
car insurance is due too next week.
Upside? my energy supplier (gas/lectric, not physical jerk type) has halved my DD payment till the end of the year, and those savings will more than pay the insurance bill.
Off out now to my very own safari park, (aka overgrown back garden) well, after a cup of coffee, that is.0 -
Greying, I love picnics too. Things taste so much better when eaten outside whilst watching the world go by, especially if HM
mrsinvisible, I bet you shed a tear too when you left your GD. My two get tearful when they have to go home and they only live 15 miles away! It's such a buzz when, out of the blue, they tell me they love me sooo much (it's not half as much as I love them)
Well, my dear Sis will be 75 on 1st August so my task for today will be to make her a special card. As I said before, she is feminine and very elegant so I need to design a card to match :eek: I only have until 4.30pm when DH comes back from work :rotfl::rotfl:Sealed Pot Challenge #012

Lol! Fear not the egg will be reported on tomorrow. Besides, I've left work late and my trains are showing as delayed. Maybe a sneaky McDs will be the order of the day? :-P
Strange we haven't heard from Shortie - hope the bad luck didn't get her. I'm looking forward to hearing how the frozen egg tasted.
Just reporting in that the HM lemon curd recipe is delicious however not enough left to try freezing it - was too delicious :rotfl:
Will make more next weekend to freeze and report back n:)
