Good Morning :hello:
I'm back! We've had a wonderful time and are now back home in Greying Towers safe and sound
Thank you so very much for all your kind comments wishing us well. We did have a great time, the accommodation was lovely, the weather pavement splittingly sunshiney and we have returned refreshed and revitalised
The highlights of the week have definitely been the abundance of birds and wildlife that we saw. I'm afraid that the cake munching got the thumbs down from me. We went to; a *high end* NGS open garden, a Natty trust property and a community caff where we had tea/coffee and cake. At all three venues, the cake was under par - either both slices, or one slice; was dryI'm tempted to blame the weather, but in the one place, I saw the *fresh* cake being cut before me, we had the first slice, and it was still dry. So £20 not well spent
It's funny, I'd always felt very guilty about taking picnics to places before this hols. I'm afraid I've now shed that guilt and we will be taking our own from here on in
However, we did purchase local and regional foodstuffs whilst we were there, so we did do our *bit* as tourists to support the local economyAnd I have to say, that by far the most pleasurable item was a paper bag full of garden grown broad beans that we got from the bakers
They were, absolutely gorgeous, no guilt about food miles, as the garden was just across the road, and they were obviously freshly picked. SO much better than the chocolate spot addled pods on offer for 25% more per kilo at the local greengrocers
For reference, we had then with casarecce pasta, lemon, olive oil and garlic - the beans tossed into pasta water for a minute or so at the end of cooking. DELISH
And to help things even more, the loaf of bread that I got in the bakers was smashing too - I've not had such tasty shop-bought stuff in a long while
We had read about a local place that made pizzas. Whilst the pizzas sounded interesting, and they did a *pizza and drink* for £10pp night, the online reviews of the place were variable. So dear reader, I took inspiration and we made our own pizzaI purchased 3 local/regional cheese types - which cost me £7.16 in total. These cheeses were enough for the pizza, plus there was enough of 2 cheeses left over for a lunch of bread and cheese and for 2 days of sandwiches for packed lunches (the bread did 3 days in total too
) I made pizza and salad, and we had a 500ml glass of bottled beer (not local) each to accompany for a grand total of £11 for 2 people. Which is not too bad, considering the full cost of all the cheeses was included in this, as I possibly wouldn't have bought all 3 otherwise.
I did take a pic of *me tea* - just to highlight the local cheeses you understand.........:rotfl:
Right, I'd best shift a tail-feather. DP is itching to get on the pooter to *catch-up* with the motogp from last Sunday....<rollseyessmiley>
Thank you, as ever, for your support. You are all fantastic
See y'all later.

So pleased that you had a great holiday, we have had a bit of a "garden week" too. Visited 2 gardens under yellow book scheme and this one, it vies with Sissinghurst for first place in my top 10 now:D
ETA - food sounds yummy too, our Friday treat is fresh bread (pumpkin and green olive, pear and perry, dark ale and walnut etc) from local bakers and a small piece of "cheese of the week" from fabby shop called "the mousetrap" LOLThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.
