Delicious. DD said 'this will do for 2 nights'. However was too delish. Especially the bit left in the pan as it was very rich and didn't stay left in the pan for long. DDs contribution to clearing up! Next time will try it with cheesy mash. ( was too tired tonight).

Oh blow! Yes, a disappointment indeed. But a nice glass of white would have been lovely as an accompaniment to the Barley Bowl
Well, today is Wednesday, and in addition to being back to 'normal' (stop sniggering at the back - *normal* does occur at Greying Towers with some regularity, actually) today, is technically, I suppose the first day of a new beginning
Thank goodness that the sun has decided to show its face
I'm pretty sure that I can snag a NSD today - so that is goodEH and Cheery are ramping them up, so I'm encouraged by their efforts
Dinner this evening will not be as luxurious as last nightHowever, I shall probably put the mockers on the weather (we currently have sun) by saying that I intend to serve salad at Greying Towers this evening
Right, I've a tail-feather to shift.
Thanks so much for dropping by, reading and sharing. I really, really appreciate it
See y'all later.

Dinner looks YUMMY! Mind you, our veggie cannelloni last night also looked mighty good, and tasted JUST as good - I think I've said before the ultimate accolade for veggie food at EH Towers is MrEH NOT saying "Nice, but would have been improved with a bit of bacon" - and he didn't say that last night, so I'm claiming that one as a win! :rotfl:
Don't be quoting me as any sort of benchmark on the NSD front though - you'll be far outstripping me this month, no question!
Happy travelling to Little_Sweetie - have a wonderful time - the weather in Essex when I left it this morning was just glorious - hopefully Suffolk is as good for you!

Good Evening :hello:
Ah now EH, I know there's no competitive element to nsd's - I just find yours and Cheery's progress motivating
YAY to mrEH healing quickly :T It's prolly the veggie diet wots dun it:rotfl:
So, have you all had a lovely day? And have you had some sunshine? It's a yes on both counts for me, so no complaints from these 'ere parts around Greying Towers
I've claimed a NSD and we had salad for dinner, so I've updated my siggie accordingly.
Dinner was very nice - I'm not sure that I've made it before, in fact I'm pretty sure that I haven't and DP said that if he had had it before, it would have been in the 1970's :rotfl: However, I got my inspiration for Ensaladilla Rusa (also known as Russian Salad) from Casa Moro cookbook by Sam & Sam Clarke, but with additional 'tweeks' provided by Arthur Potts Dawson in his 'Eat more Veg' cookbook. I can't remember if the Casa Moro version is 100% veggie - I've written it down without reference to meat/fish - but the APD version contains smoked chicken
I certainly copied APD's presentation of the salad, pic here;
I think that the only thing extra in my version, that is not in either of the recipes is red pepper. Actually, this salad is apparently a regular menu item in Spain, and red peppers are used. I had some, and I liked the addition - especially since the Casa Moro version has red onion too - I think all the veg starts to look colourful. The peas and carrots from the mrS basiks bag of frozen veg, the green beans were frozen too. There is a snap portion left over too.
We actually both liked the salad and I would definitely make it again. I am surprised that I don't remember ever having it before, as it is quite simple to make, and yet the flavours work so well together.
If you are considering holding an Abigail's Party night (;) one for our more mature crowd) and think this salad would make a nice centre piece to your buffet, Arthur's recipe can be found HERE And scroll down for the picture to see what a presentation copy-cat I am
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
the scent of lilac - you know it's spring
that our tomato plants are beginning to flower - we may yet have HG tomatoes at Greying Towers this year :T
that some brave soul went beyond the first taste of an olive and devised a way to make them edible - so glad they succeeded
Thank you so much for popping in, reading and commenting. Mucho appreciated.
See y'all later.

Salad look absolutely delish Greying. No salad here tonight but pretty yummy anyway. Cold Salmon (YS from C*-op), new tatties and broccoli.
I have had a great day and lots of sunshine here too. Several stints of gardening done, started pottering in jammies and dressing gown before breakfast it was so warm and lovely outside. Lots of natter and laugher at knit and natter (a little knitting too). Mr & Mrs Blackbird and Mrs & Mrs Robin are eating me out of house and home, they each have at least one chick hiding in the flower beds demanding meals on wings and we are being visited by no less than 7 Jackdaws, they are eating so much food that I have to keep running out and shooing them away:rotfl: The very best news (fingers crossed it lasts) is that the foul tasting powdered herbs prescribed by the medical herbalist to decrease pain and swelling of my joints seems to be working well after only a very few days:j:j:j (well gently bouncing if not jumping for joy)

Very nice salad GP. I've had traumas with bees at my house tonight but all quiet on the western front for now. I made up the Jack Monroe burgers yesterday so took them to my sisters and we had red kidney bean burgers with chips and salad. They were fantastic. I think we have converted another too! She was very impressed.
Beautiful sunshine although only managed about a half an hour. Had an otherwise eventful day although managed to spend about £20! Popped into the local cheap shop and purchased some fudge for DMs birthday. Then saw a few bargains - apple sauce 29p. Some peach halves for 39p a can. Salmon spread 3 for a pound, etc. Sorry couldnt exist stocking up a bit. I then called into the co-op for a pack of salad for a squid but found washing powder on offer for £3, pg tips for £2.87 and also bought a pineapple pot complete with spoon for 29p! Couldn't resist the pineapple as I am on a no sweet things challenge. Very nice, will buy some more - was only 75 calories and far healthier than biscuits. I have now completed 3 days of no cake, biscuits, puddings or sweets..:)

Good Morning :hello:
Hiya maddiemay - ain't seen you in an age - you're sounding well. I hope the herbal medic-a-ments continue to help you and that you're entering for 'strictly' before we know itLoving the garden birds tales. How wonderful
supersaver - those burgers are so easy to make, and really deliver on taste and filling you up. Get you spreading the wordWell done
:D
I'm now officially jealous of everyone with a co-op near enough to shop in for the YS bargains. Ours used to be brill - kept my shopping prices right downAlas it is no more, and I'm reduced to looking in MandS for their cast-offs, in an attempt to beat the prices currently charged at the market! :rotfl:
Gosh, I'm struggling to believe that it is Thursday already.
Today should be a NSD - can't think of anything that we want/need.
I've begun prepping dinner - Scheherazade casserole - so that's all set up.
Best get up and at 'em I guess and do a bit more
Thanks very much for popping in, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
