cats in my garden grrrrrrr

my neighbours cat started using my gravel path as a toilet. this path runs alongside my house, my back door and my car so it really was a bad place. I tried bleach, vinegar, hot chilli spices, curry spice, ginger spice. nothing worked until someone suggested man wee. mark your territory . I also saw an old film where the African landowner did the same to keep lions away. so I sent my husband out to do his duty every night for a week and it worked. problem solved. my husband marks his territory about once a week now. we cant smell anything but the cats can and we never have a problem now.

This should get Funniest Moneysaving Tip of the Year Award :T0 -
My neighbour and school friend moved in two doors away from me a few months ago and i'm plagued by her cats (shes got 3). They spend more time in my garden they they do their own. I actually found one of the cats and a 'friend' bonking at the bottem of my garden on Friday.
Bin bags are ritualistically ripped open most nights. I bought a dustbin for any food waste which they cant get into but they shred the bin bags with the non food waste in too. They have started to leave piles of poo in amongst the bin bags which is now making me even more irate. I don't want to buy more black bins as we are supposed to be having wheely bins sometime next year and its a waste of money.
The stink down the side of my house is blasted awful and it isn't my dogs! What topped it off was when I took my bin bags up for my bin men who come early on Monday morning.... My bags were double and triple bagged and they were still slightly ripped by her cats. Her bin bags were intact without a mark on them.
I quite like the idea of getting some lion poo. Though my nearest zoo is only a few short miles away, I don't think I can persuade hubby to go and fetch some and I don't want cat or lion poo in my garden.
Bum spikes are not really an option as one of my dogs is only a little bit bigger than a cat herself.
Do you think an ultrasonic scarer would affect my dogs?
This sounds more like foxes than cats. They don't normally leave their business in the open like that but foxes ... well that's another story.
I would love to stop the foxes using my garden as a toilet because, quite frankly, at least the neighbourhood cats bury it.0 -
If 'man wee' works as a deterrent then you should try marketing it.
It could be worth making an appearance on the Dragons Den to raise some capital to cover launch costs, etc.

Well we will see how I go with orange peel. Failing that Im not sure I can talk hubby into peeing round the bin bags. I hope the orange peel works as I don't want the smell of any pee, man, fox or cat at the side of my house.:(This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Cats need to crap somewhere. It'll fertilise the soil, so what's your problem?0

The cats...oh the cats. I have a small front garden and they have taken to crapping in the two small strips of soil where my beautiful flowers are.
So far we have used several store bought concoctions - pepper dust stuff, spray that smells like garlic and more powder stuff. Never worked. I got some lemons and sprinkled the juice and the skins, never worked.
I have just got home from work and am so enraged to find yet more crap in the garden I've emptied two bottles of lemon bleach on the soil. What else can I try?
Water - cannot do this unless I sit at the window 24/7. Its mainly when I'm work.
Dogs - got two bu they both hate cats and if either caught a cat in the garden, well the cat wouldn't live to tell the tale. Plus the front garden is not fully enclosed so they'd likely run off or get nicked lol
Sonic sound thing - cheapest I have seen is £30, reluctant to spend this as it will potentially get nicked.
Any other ideas? Will the smell of bleach put them off? I am tempted to try barbed wire next....
Cats love the smell of bleach. They will be ecstatic if you put that down. I have 3 cats but i have a litter tray in the garage that they can access at all times. I turn parts of my garden over so they can go there but invariably they go where i don't want them to. I would rather they go in mine as i like my neighbours and don't want to fall out with them.
Try putting some wire netting just under the soil where they go. or have you tried putting some dog poo  there. Might deter them. It's very hard once they have made a place their own to get them to stop0 -
Mine loved the smell of bleach. He'd also take the skin off your hand licking the back of it if you'd been swimming in a chlorinated pool.Make £2025 in 2025

No dog poo doesn't deter them in the slightest. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Yes, they need to go somewhere, which is why a decent owner will provide a litter tray or a patch of their own garden for their cat to mess in, rather than expecting their neighbours to deal with it.
My problem is that it stinks and I don't WANT to clean it up. I clean up after my own animals and children, and so should cat owners. When you leave it for the neighbours to deal with that means that the most infirm elderly residents are the ones who are least able to scare the cats off, so they end up unable to open their windows in the summer because of the stink.
It's a revolting way to behave. Most owners will at least try to clean up after their own pets but some just don't give a monkeys and think it's somebody else's problem. Very selfish

I have two cats, they've eventually grown up and didn't need the tray anymore. It's natural for them to do it outside and there's no way to tell them where they want to do it, they decide for themselves where they feel safe and private enough.
Be grateful they prefer to do it out of sight unlike dogs who'd crap all over your living room if given the chance. Cats respect us enough to do it somewhere else and bury it as best they can so it doesn't offend us as we are the bigger animal.0
