Half Day on a Friday

I've never worked anywhere with an early finish on Fridays
Customers don't really like it if they can't speak to anyone on a Friday afternoon.Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
We do a 36hr week so have a choice of doing 8hrs a day then half day Friday or we can do 40 hours followed by 32 and have every other Friday off work.
It is one of the benefits that keep me here....0 -
I finish at 4.30pm instead of 5pm on a Friday. Can't complain
Lots of the companies I deal with finish anytime between 12 noon and 4.30pm. Mainly construction type companies, guys that are site workers.
XCan't think of anything smart to put here...0 -
I work in an office, and we're on flexitime. If we do enough hours Monday to Thursday, we can leave as early as lunchtime on Friday.
In practice, I leave mid-afternoon, about 2:45.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I used to work for an online directory. The sales team would leave early on a Friday, or even have the afternoon or whole day off if they were exceeding targets.
Can't remember the last job I had with an early finish on a Friday, must have been mid 80sPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
As a civil servant I used to finish 30mins early on a Friday, but that was due to the contract being a ridiculous indivisible number of hours (37hrs over 5 days doesn't divide into convenient times!)
Current job? No chance of finishing early, the best we get is to dress down on Fridays.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
MSE: many of the benefits of a helpful family, without disadvantages like having to compete for the tv remoteProud Parents to an Aut-some son

Says it all about the Civil Service really
37 hours could EASILY equate to 7.5 hrs Mon-Thu, then 7 hrs Friday ??????:eek:0 -
Not quite a half day. 5 hours compared with 8 hours Mon-Thu. It originated in the annual pay negotiations years ago (probably about 1990) and has persisted ever since despite a change of ownership.

When I worked for BAE Systems we finished at 12:30 on a Friday if working normal day shifts.
Mon - Thurs 7:30 til 16:12.
Fri 7:30 til 12:30
If working nights you finished at 3am Friday Morning. So you essentially got a 3 and a half day weekend.
Mon- Wed nights
8pm - 7am
Thu night
8pm -3am.
Now (Civil Service) I finish at 3pm on a Friday, but then I am part time (34 hours p/w rather than 37)[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

I work a 35 hour week and whilst my colleagues work 9 to 5 with an hour for lunch, it was suggested to me that I could work 8 to 4.30 for 4 days with half an hour for lunch and on Fridays work the remaining 3 hours from home. This was because I was relocated against my wishes because it involved a much longer journey to and from work and given an ultimatum - relocate or no job, so my employers came up with a compromise to help save on fuel etc.
I do my 3 hours on a Friday early in the morning so that I have the rest of the day off and a longer weekend!0
