We don't work a half-day on Friday, but we do close at 4 rather than 5. That extra hour can be handy if people are heading off somewhere for the weekend.0

I think it's a by-product from an older generation.
I came home at 9pm recently one Friday to find my mother-at-law at home and aghast that I could work so late on a Friday. Her comment was that in 40 years of work, she had never worked past 1400 on a Friday, and would refuse to if asked.
I see it more prominently in the public sector and offices managed by the old skool than in younger more private environments.0 -
bankers go home early?
LOL

Yep I am in at 7.45am & leave approx 5.30pm but that's cause I have kids & want to get home for bedtime. In the old childless days, 15hr days were not unknown! And yes, no OT:(I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Some people work an extra hour Monday - Thursday and get away 5 hours early on a Friday - an additional one hour relating to their lunch break that they work through.
It is definitely making a big comeback and something I might look into, where I work many people work away from home during the week and go home at the weekend, thus the short Friday is great.0 -
I missed the boat on this one, a few of my colleagues have it but they had it stipulated in their contracts prior to joining the company.0

25-30 years ago it was the norm to finish half day on a Friday, a lot of pubs were busier then than they are now for the 7 days combined. (Quite a few hadgentlemen's entertainment laid on aswell on a Friday afternoon)Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

the last company i worked for did a half day on a Friday, it was to align the company to the work pattern of the production department.
I believe it is more common in factories, I had a friend that worked in a factory that also had half day Fridays. Im not sure, but it might be a historic tradition carried on0 -
