As it stands I expect to pay the full amount, but then if I didnt raise my complaint, there'd be no chance of getting any portion of the cost re-imbursed due to the cockup somewhere along the line...

Honestly, the rail manager you spoke to may be stupid, but you won't find too many people on this forum as stupid to agree with you. You are expected to pay what you shop for, I don't see how their "cockup" has affected you. If anything, it has affected them, as for five months, they have extended to you, an interest free loan of £70, and they're claiming it back right now.

Daveboy's been a bit harsh here, but I agree with everything he says, nevertheless...

    Hi Jolsa

Take no notice of some of the nasty replies you will receive on here.

I'm still waiting to be charged £600 for something which I bought 4 months ago. I was basically accused of taking the company concerned for a ride, thieving, etc. I've no intention of pointing out the error as it's the company's problem for being stupid enough to overlook it. Money's still sitting in my account, I've no problem paying - but if they don't take it then its building up interest in the meantime.

Charging someones card 5 months late is nothing more than shoddy. A lot of people using credit cards budget from day to day and as you have said it's come as a shock. It's easy to miss smaller transactions if you use your card a lot.

Good luck with the rail company and I hope you get something for being messed about.

So we now have two people who think they can get things for nothing.

I'd take no notice of those two people with no common sense, the original poster and VH.

Notice how you're in a minority of one, VH.
  • Isn't he/she in a minority of at least two?

I was talking in terms of people supporting the OP - I didn't include the OP themselves.

It could be the person he spoke to was very felexable on customer service, In the past when traveling by train I have received free upgrades to first class / money off vouchers etc after complaining about delays(when they are the result of the train company, not when its a external factor which I can totaly understand)

Some compalies will offer the world to ensure they keep peoples custom, the manaer the OP spoke to probably had that belif.

    Hi All,

One thing I wonder is how did the rail company fail to take the money for so long - Surely its an automated process done entirely on computer, so how could a transaction somehow be 'missed' for so long? This could be at either the rail company, the rail company's bank, or your bank - Just seems odd, though going by other stories on here, it does happen every so often!

    Cheers

What interest is it building up? Credit interest for you, which is to your advantage. Now, why would you blame the other company for bringing you some credit interest as profit. If you are saying you're being charged interest for the delay in making the payment, you can contest it, since you've authorised it the moment you've signed up for whatever you bought. Frankly, you aren't making yourself clear enough on what the issue is here.

Now, that's a load of baloney, and in my opinion, it shows how badly you plan your finances, if you authorise a payment, and use whatever you buy against the money, and then lose track of the fact that you owe it. I think you need to first look at how you can better track your outflows, rather than misguide people about making claims in such situations, when it is only right that they pay what they owe to the companies in question, when they do claim their dues.

I agree Walletwatch, its a symptom of the compensation culture and the not taking responsibility for yourselves culture that is brewing in this country at the moment. People think they can get money for any little thing and when someone does have a genuine need for compensation it makes it a lot more difficult for them to get it.
