car insurance rip-off

where do I start, in may this year I took out insurance for my z3 online with autonet insurance. everything fine till they ask me for proof of licence, I dig out my licence only to find my address hasn't been updated, I emailed them to let them know (autonet), that's fine they say we will give you 14 days. got it back 11 days later only to find my mrs licence (who is also on my policy) is also out of date, another email to explain along with a scanned copy of my licence. they give me another 14 days. licence doesn't arrive in the 14 days so autonet cancelled my policy, not to worry I think I will just go else where, how wrong I was. this all happened around mid june, a few days ago I received a letter from lion debt recovery service demanding I pay the full premium for my autonet insurance threatening court action unless I pay, including there processing cost of £40, now I already have paid around a third of this policy so surely autonet owe me money not the other way around, I was only covered by them for around 6-7 weeks. then another letter for some finance company saying as I hadn't signed and returned the finance agreement for said insurance and returned it to them I also incur another £20 charge for an agreement I didn't even receive. any suggestions anyone

Unless you Already have done so you need to inform your new insurers that your previous policy was cancelled by the insurer.
Otherwise you leave them with the opportunity to void your policy when they find out and refuse any claim.0 -
What do you mean out of date ?

rip off as in for just 6 weeks insurance Im now told I need to pay the full 12 months cover. why am I paying for something I havnt had? it wasn't my choice. also there was no mention of them needing a copy of my licence until it was signed and sealed. paying for something I havnt had is like putting petrol in someone else's car, this isn't the whole story. a bit more info is needed here- I brought the car in may, the seller didn't post the logbook off, all I had was the green slip, it needed taxing in june. I could have taken the green slip to the post office for my tax disc but I would need an insurance policy, autonet would not send me my policy till I gave them what they wanted so I couldn't tax my car. why should I pay for this when I didn't even receive the documents.0

Have you queried that with Autonet?littlefeller wrote: »rip off as in for just 6 weeks insurance Im now told I need to pay the full 12 months cover.0 -
they wont respond to my emails, I just get a blank email in return. autonet have already passed it onto lion debt company who are threatening county court with even more costs.0

The only way they could possibly cancel your policy AND retain the premium is if they can prove fraud, as this seems like an admin issue then you should certainly get a refund of the unused premiumlittlefeller wrote: ».....there was no mention of them needing a copy of my licence until it was signed and sealed......
if the requirement to provide copies of licence was only made after you took the policy out then I'd say that cancelling so soon would fail the "treat the punter fairly" test particularly given the long term consequences of having a cancelled policy on your record.
I'd be inclined to put a complaint in with a view to getting a refund of the unused premium and getting the cancellation removed from your record.0
