Does a "producer" need to be served directly to the owner/driver?

Dont do producer's anymore. Atleast in england.
why'd you ask?0 -
Out of curiosity, if the police wanted to serve a "producer" requesting documents for a vehicle, do they have to serve it directly on the driver/registered keeper, or could they just send one through the post?
Do they do producers still? taxing the car online the system knows if there is valid insurance, VED and mot, you wouldn't get a producer through the post, as per post #2 why do you ask?0 -
I have a van that's kept off the public highway and is out of tax/mot/insurance. A neighbour has reported the police have been seen nosing around it when I wasn't in, plus they've put a card through my letterbox asking me to contact them. While I have no intention of volunteering myself to them, I'm contemplating whether actively avoiding them until my van is scrapped (in the next week or so) would be a prudent move.0

Seems odd, where exactly is it kept?0

If you have done nothing wrong, get in touch. It might be the van has been cloned or something. You could be suddenly getting fines for a vehicle you don't own etc.
Again, if you haven't used it and there is nothing illegal about it there is no reason not to engage with the police. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
There must be a reason why the police want to speak you you about it. I think you would be unwise to ignore this.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

I know someone has complained to the police about it (it's been sitting there for 12 months while I get around to scrapping it, communal parking), that's why they're sniffing around. Given I expect it to be gone in the next few days, making myself available to them could either satisfy their curiosity and make them forget about me for a while, or give them a target to annoy. As far as I'm concerned it's nothing to do with them, only the housing association (who's land its on), who I have spoken to.0

Ah communal parking. That's why then. No offence but twelve months of a scrapped van sitting there is likely to annoy anyone. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

I guessed that I'm sure it's technically nothing to do with the police, although they get bored round here so it's probably giving them something to do. I'm just curious to see if they could be a pain if I got in touch with them, or if they can be a pain anyway if they wanted to.0 -
Did you sorn it?
Is it actually registered to you at your address?
Maybe there is fines floating around in regards to the vehicle.
Seeing as they have put a card through your door, they presume you own it. I would contact them.0
