For us if we pay £20 per month extra it knows 2 years off and £3500 interest!

    Wow that's brilliant!!

I'm aiming for £50 for August but it will also be a bit spendy as we are off to a festival and have some weekends with friends planned as well as my dad's birthday. But every little helps so I will keep chipping away!

I've been a bit rubbish the last couple of days. Yesterday should have been a nsd but I caved and went for drinks at lunchtime with some work folk and then today should have been a nsd too but I was soooo starving when the food wagon came around and Ihadn't packed myself any snacks I ended up having a cake.

So a bit rubbish really and frittery spends which makes me cross with myself!!

Positive thing is that I am doing some paid overtime this weekend (work is horrible at the moment with loads of changes so the extra cash definitely makes up for some of the stress!). No particular plans for this weekend so should be relatively frugal. Hopefully the weather will stay nice and we can pack a picnic for the beach or a national trust place.

    Aims for next month:-
    - no eBay or Amazon purchases
    - no putting anything on credit card except fuel (we are supposed to just put fuel on there but this month we put a new rooter on there and a meal out with friends)
    - going to try for 15 nsd
    - when we meet up with friends for the weekend we will inevitably end up eating out and I will NOT order dessert (if I write it here I have to stick to it!) which will be good for my wallet and my belly....

Pay day on Wednesday - phew! :j

Hi ED - start of your journey looking good! Don't worry about the frittering thing... when you get 100% obsessed with this OP lark the frittering will stop!! :D:D

    Thanks laurajo!

Deeply impressed that you only have a year to go - your signature is impressive!

I have done 5 hours over time this weekend. I don't think it'll make this month's pay but nice to have it coming.

    Pay day :j

Have put £50 to mortgage straight away and will hopefully be able to pay a bit more over the next month too.

Mr Delta very on board to help make this as frugal a month as possible! We have a festival, visitors and a weekend away with other friends to do without going mad and over spending.

Thanks ED - although I don't have any emergency savings (or baby fund - not planning on ever needing on lol!!)
I do think putting money in on pay day is a good way to go - I tend to spend whatever I have in my bank and if I don't have it then I don't spend it (well usually!)

Ooh thank you!! I was so taken with the thought of being "inspiration" that I bumped another tenner across to mortgage :D

Hope that you are doing okay - good luck!! Have you got a diary? Would love to have a read.

I sooooo agree! By the end of the month there will only be £1 in my account, no matter what there should be according to my calculations at the start of the month!

Festival this weekend so spendy BUT we only spent half the money we budgeted so I put £10 to emergency fund and £20 to mortgage. It was such a fun weekend and I don't feel like we went without anything we really wanted either. Survived camping in thunder and lightning too!

  • Hello there,

I have read your diary with renewed enthusiasm to become MF. I too am with Santander but when I enquired about overpayments (over a year ago to my shame) I was told it would have to be a set amount via direct debit each month. Obviously this put me right off as committing to an increase was a bit intimidating.

How do you manage to transfer small amounts to your mortgage?
