  • Hi Castlelough, thanks for the message :). Hope you're well.

Had a lovely week, spent rather a lot but it was worth it and we had it saved so all good. Absolute favourite thing was taking Small out on Coniston Water in a row boat. It was beautiful, she loved it and Mr Delta and I felt all outdoorsy!

I have £200 damage deposit to come back from the rental cottage. One car needs an MOT this month so we will use that and anything over can go towards an overpayment.

Still waiting on confirmation from "the Spanish bank" about how much I need to pay to reduce the term by a month but I think I must be getting close!

Actually got a letter from them in response to my moan so calling them about it tomorrow. Petty but it has irked me that although it's a joint mortgage, the moany letter was from me and referred to conversations I have had with them they have addressed the letter to Mr Delta only. Possibly I am supposed to be too busy baking to worry my pretty little head about the mortgage! :p

  • Need to get the lid back on the spending for the rest of the month. Been getting a bit too enthusiastic with the Christmas shopping (yes, I know it's only September!) so short term aims are :-

-buying nothing else from eBay or Amazon for the rest of the month
-at least 10 nsd for the remainder of the month

  • Spoke to lady from the mortgage company today. Very apologetic indeed!

I now know how to make overpayments so they won't mess up and will apply to the capital only (for the record calling after an internet transfer or sending a cheque).

Wehave 175 mortgage payments left to make (if we were jsut doing the monthly direct debit) - that sort of scares me but also inspired me!

Amountneeded to reduce the term by a whole month is currently £288 but that willchange slightly each month as the capital reduces, interest changes etc. So we are going to aim for OPing £300 at a time.

Currently have £271 in "holding account" so nearly there for another month off the term!

In other news I have had a NSD today (am through the danger zone of lunchtime at work so am calling it!)

  • So I lost the plot last night and started looking at winter sun holidays!

Found some fantastic looking stuff! All inclusive on the Red Sea, Morocco, Tunisia, Canary Islands..... Had just persuaded myself that £900 for all of us to have a week away in January was incredibly reasonable (it is really!) when Mr Delta pointed out that (a) we have a holiday booked for next year (camping and self catering combo) and (b) that would reduce our mortgage term by 3 months!

So he dragged me back to the straight and narrow!

I'm going to keep an eye out though and see if we can save for a holiday abroad in the next couple of years.

Apart from that it was a good day. My boss has agreed that I can do a few hours of paid overtime over the next couple of weeks and I heard from the people with the cottage in the Lakes and should have the damage deposit in my account in the next few days.

  • Applied for the 123 current account for the cash back and also the decent interest rate for the "baby fund" money. Getting a cash back credit card as well for a few extra pennies each month (we currently put all our fuel on a credit card and pay it off in full each month). 3% cash back on fuel so that'll be between £6 and £9 per month. Whittling away at it!

And it's reminded me that I really need to find the air miles stuff from the current credit card and see what is going on with that!
