  • I'm quite pale, so I use nivea factor 30. I kind of think all of them will be a little greasy, but this one is good, smells nice, and i haven't been burned since i used it. (finger's crossed!!) Also, i always keep a small packet of wet wipes in my bag for after applying on the go!

There's actually no difference between 30 and 50 in terms of protection. ;)

I wonder why they sell 50 then? thanks for the info next time I buy I will check the prices if the 30 is cheaper I will go for that instead and try it to see if it makes any difference.

They can charge more for it because people think it must be better. ;)

I used to use Piz Buin for face, but stopped when I changed over all my skincare to non-animal tested. Incidentally, quite a few scary stories about allergic reactions to Piz Buin in the media of late. (My poor neighbour suddenly had a very bad reaction to Piz Buin a few weeks ago and yet she's used it for years she told me.) I use Superdrug own brand (BUAV approved) for my body and Factor 50 from Ahava on my face. I'm fair skinned and burn easily, the Ahava product isn't greasy at all, it does leave a slightly whitish layer on my face but as I flush easily I'm quite happy with it's accidental bonus effect!

I am another Ultrasun user! It is a bit pricey, but lasts for ages as you only put it on once a day. Love it, will never buy anything else now!

There is actually a very slight increase in protection between 30 and 50. Above about 15 the level or protection levels off drastically as you can see in the graph below. Above 50 the level of protection can't be guaranteed which is why some countries ban sunscreen being labelled higher than 50.

I'm going to try the Superdrug range after all of these recommendation. Thanks, everyone.

I've got incredibly pale skin, am a redhead, and burn in no time. My best success to date has been with Roc's factor 50 range. It soaked in well, and my skin didn't seem to even react to the sun, not even freckles!

It's about 1% - from 97% to 98%. They charge far more for SPF 50 than 30 for that tiny little percent. ;)

Piz Buin Allergy SPF30. It's the only stuff that has ever worked and took years to find. It smells nice, doesn't feel too sticky either, and best of all, I don't get prickly heat with it.

On my face I use Neutrogena Dry Touch SPF55. It feels as light as a moisturiser, isn't drying & has a matte finish, as well as being the only facial suncream that has protected me from any freckling, darkening and sunglasses-tan-marks. It's not available in shops but I get it on ebay.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.
