Egg Money Warning

I have just opened an Egg Money account. I always pay full balance by direct debit on any credit cards. When applying for Egg Money I DEFINITELY selected "pay the full negative balance" as my payment option. Whilst browsing my account online I noticed that "pay the minimum amount" was given as my payment option. I have, of course, changed it now. However, I think it is really sneaky to change it to something someone hasn't asked for on the off-chance they don't notice and end up having to pay interest.

Just something else for people to watch out for.

Why does this slight of hand not suprise me. Its what you have to do to meet those billion pound profits. Trick your customers.

If this is the drum that you are choosing to beat please confine yourself to doing so in one thread so that the rest of the people on this board dont have to scroll through all these tedious rants from someone who obviously has a chip on their shoulder.

Just spoken to Egg - "probably an error in the system" or somesuch when I applied. I asked them to note that I'd called about this and she confirmed that any interest charged would be refunded (tho there shouldn't be as the account is new and payment won't be due for a few weeks yet). I am just glad I spotted it.

Customer service seems good, I have to say.......

Yes ive never had a problem with egg, generally everything is there in front of you so you can make most changes and transactions yourself and if you do need to speak to them/message them you will usually get a reply back quite quickly.

Egg is fine if you trust internet Banking. Been in IT for 30 years. Would I trust on-line banking ? NO ...
Just look at the track record. Yes it's now a lot safer .recently..but just wait for the next big one.
Some banks are thinking of giving out PIN number entry devices for home use with on-line banking. Now if what exists today is secure ...then why would this be a line they are investigating ?

I have never had any problems with Egg either. Balance transfers done on time, D/D collected on due date (usually showing as a credit by next working day) and when I had a duplicated item on our last holiday, card was stopped and replaced within a matter of days. No bother at all.

Because it would help prevent phishing exploits which are the main (if not only) weakpoint in online access.

If you are careful (or have been in IT for 30 years ;)) is something which won't be of concern to you.
