so , if we go for BT youview when we move to our new house , we can keep the standard broadband with BT we have now and STILL get BT Sport and kiddies TV

    Is that about right ?

The thing is , i dont want to get infinity , if it isnt necessary....
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
  • Apologies for piggybacking

    If I am using
    3) get a tv/broadband package from talktalk, they supply a youview box (different to the humax) and have all content the retail box has plus 'boosts' which allow you to view sky channels (movies, sports, discovery etc) through the talktalk player app. This gives more content than BTs offering but the talktalk player app is clunky and you can't record from the sky channels.

Does anyone know anymore about extra charges if you don't keep your youview box connected to your broadband with them?
This was something that was mentioned when I spoke on the phone and haven't received paper contract details yet and 'my account' information is very limited on small print it has none?

    Thanks

According to the T's&C's, they'll charge you £199 if you do the above. Though there would really be no point in disconnecting a hybrid IP box.

I got a Humax YouView box about six months ago, useful bit of kit but I can't see the red display without getting out of my comfy armchair and moving much closer to the unit (reading glasses distance). Don't know if they've had feedback and changed this, I find it hard to believe I'm the only person to experience this problem.

Anyone with a broadband connected laptop and a tv with hdmi socket only needs a hdmi cable from £land and they can get all the i players and utube for free on the telly.

Why waste money on a box or pay for youview when you can get it for a quid.
If you need a longer cable, they`re a couple of quid from Amazon.

How is a free service 'selling you Freeview'?
The only investment is the one-off hardware cost.
You could make the same comment about any Freeview box.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

mehera - A YouView box is a high definition Freeview recorder (FreeviewHD+), with integrated on-demand. If that's not of value to you, fair enough, but it's a different proposition from a £150 Freeview box, and a completely different platform from Freesat (whose equivalent device would be the Freetime box).
