                    Hi all
I am preparing to build my 1st PC using some of the parts of my now broken Dell Inspiron 660 I5. The Parts I have are:-
128gb Samsung SSD
1tb Sata HDD
1 x 4gb DDR3
1 x 2gb DDR3
2 x Sata DVD RW drives
1 x Creative PCI-E Soundcard
1 x Asus Graphics card (PCI-E?)
Various wires
I basically use my PC for video encoding and CD ripping/sound recording.
My budget for the moment is around £250 but obviously the cheaper the better because I can always add to it. I would like either an I5 or the equivalent AMD and a board with a few slots for cards and 6(aprx) SATA ports.
And this is where I am stuck I am not sure what motherboard, processor & other bits I will need and what is compatible etc.
I was wondering if someone could help me with this and maybe offer a few ideas and suggestions?
Thank you.

I've just pretty much done what you're doing now, reused virtually all the same parts you listed above and bought new motherboard, graphics card and cpu.
To stay within your budget the obvious cpu choice would be to go AMD.
 I chose this cpu:
 AMD FX-4350
 Motherboard: Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0
those will come it about £175 ish and you can look for a deal on a new graphics card, or if the one you have at the moment is good enough (what model is it?) go for the current top of the range AMD 8 core CPU = the 8350.0

            Thanks for replying.
The graphics card I have was left over from a HTPC build I had a while back it's a Asus HD 6450 and I was basically using it for the DVI port tbh. Would that suffice?
Going to have a look at what you suggested and a look at cases & power supply too.0

            Corsair CXM 500

What style of case do you like? Gaming case with LED fans or simple plain finish?0

            Thanks.
I plan to keep it simple and would like enough space to fit 2 dvd drives and maybe a front hdd shuttle/dock.
Not that fussy if I am honest0

Just waiting for a friend to buy my mac mini for £200 and then I can push my build upto £400 in total.
Would that be good enough to build a pc that can last a few years?0

For £400, you can go for intel i5 4670K with Z87 mobo if you want to.
BTW, what's happen to your existing CPU and mobo?0

I was using it when there was lightning and it went off and never came back on.For £400, you can go for intel i5 4670K with Z87 mobo if you want to.

Tried changing fuses in the plug and when we took it apart we noticed black marks on the board so assumed it was knackered. I tried to remove the chip to see if it would work on another board and ended up snapping a chunk off the board surrounding it.
What board would you reccomend for the intel i5 4670?
BTW that case will be perfect for my needs0
