My son was going to be Flora if he was a girl but my dad said you can't call a baby that! They will say that she easily spreads.... I hadn't thought if that! Anyway he was a boy.

I wonder what the new royal addition will be? Any how many names? Xx

I'm in even more of a panic now with my baby's name. If we have a girl, she is going to be called Carys. However, we are totally stuck on boys. We like Chester and Elijah but this has put even more of an emphasis on making a good choice!

I like Elijah a lot as a name - good Welsh non-conformist name, too, goes well wih Carys.

I'd have thought about it for DS, but we already had a cat called Elijah, so it was ruled out.

Don't let the comments of a vapid silly woman put you off what you call your baby! Choose a name with love - think of the register being called at school, think of prefixing it with "doctor", "professor", "prime minister", "Sir" ....etc etc etc.

My mother said to put any potential name in two sentences:

"Ladies and gentlemen, the Prime Minister, <name>"

    and

"On his / her first appearance at the Black Cat Strip Bar, <name>"

If the second sounded more probable than the first, bin it.

My boys have traditional names but we made a major boo boo as they all start with the same blooming letter!

Eldest is named after my father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather - James

Middle son is named after a character from Casualty, we heard the name, loved it for its traditional roots and it stuck. Mind you, if he had been a girl, we were going to call it Bethannie after our grandmothers!

Youngest son was the hardest as we couldn't agree, I wanted Benjamin or Samuel, other half wanted his step dad's surname as a first name. So we got the bible out and continued our theme of biblical names. If he had been a girl, we were going to call it Jessica.

I have a quite posh sounding first name, I hated it with a vengeance and have been known as Sue since 1982 except to my family, who still use my proper name.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I used to hate my name as a kid in France (Morgan), because it's spelled like the boy's version of it, and I'm a girl, so I used to get teased a lot.
However, now I live in the UK, I love it - it's british name too, although not super common, and it's doesn't scream "French". And it's also a surname...so I have to be careful who I get married to, if I ever do...lol

Edited to add: I also happened to be a ginger baby...even though I'm now blonde. :)

My girls are emily and sophie.
Emily is the only one in her year.
Sophie is the only sophie but there are 2 sophias.
Btw sophie has a stunning head of curly red hair and I get stopped in the street by people telling me just how beautiful she is :).

I'm sure it's a Hebrew name rather than Welsh?

Catherine Tate, although ginger, pokes fun at what a lot of people think from my experience.

We also like Flora as it works in both languages, but I was somewhat put-off when a friend said "what, like the margarine?" !!

OH has a work colleague whose daughter is called Flora. We talked about knowing how mean people can be and saying 'Flora; spreads easily'.

At my DD's school there is an Armani, Miracle and Harley. Sorry but I hate these kind of names. I have an unusual name spelt slightly different from its French version and I hated it growing up; still do and abbreviate it. It gets spelt wrong often as people assume its the French spelling.

And I was quite disappointed DD1 called her son Samuel.. boring in the extreme! and sounds a bit silly with their surname.. I did tell her that and I still call him Skinny Legs which I did from her finding out.

I wanted to call one (most!) of my girls Ophelia Loveday... I absolutely love it.. 19 years later! KH said 'people' would say can I have an Ophelia bum/boobs?'.. I disagree, I think a daughter of mine would be far too confident to care.

My youngest niece is called Ophelia and I might be a bit biased but I love the name too.
I also love the name Isobel and would have used it if I ever had a daughter, until my half sister called her daughter Isobel that was.

I went to school with identical twins...Sugaray and Stallone. They were a couple of years above me, but had a younger brother called Rocky who was in my year. Just as well they were a family you didn't really want to mess with.

My son and daughter both have very unusual names. I just don't like more common names or made up ones. Ophelia is very pretty but I know 3 of them so would never consider it.
