Anyone purchased a car from Paul Whatley Cars - Stourbridge

Thank you Bob, it must be that. It only stuck in my mind because I had only heard negative feedback about the other company. It appears to be the latest go to places for what were termed in the past as back street traders.0

Right, now the matter has been settled i can finally comment. All i will do is state what happened and the outcome.
Purchased a Red 06 reg 1.6tdci focus from paul whatley cars in june 2014 for £3600 (inc 6 months tax which he offered to purchase as an incentive for me to buy but later I figured the car was already taxed?!)
2 Days later I called him about faults with the car i.e knocking from engine bay and A/C not working.
I had to pay for A/C regas and was told knocking was nothing to worry about.
Over the next 4 months he had the car back 4 times for repairs (3x cooling fan 1x dpf filter) as cooling fan kept staying on and car finally went into limp mode.
I had to arrange the repairs with the garage he uses and deliver the car for repairs with no offer of a courtesy car or compensation.
I also spent over £300 on 4 repair items (done cheaply by a family friend) myself as he wouldnt do them (wishbone, gearbox mount, 2 tyres and rear trailing arm bushes which were severly worn (MOT failure worn and ruined the rear tyres...which were borderline legal when i purchased it)
I asked the dealer for reimbursment of the repair costs i had incurred and he refused.
He me sign an agreement before the last repair (dpf) or he wouldnt authorise it (saying if he did this repair i wouldnt bother him again for the £300+ repairs i had done)
I signed and repair was done but problems not solved.
I contacted trading standards.
I then asked him for £3600 refund (which wouldnt have covered the 335 i spent on repairs myself....the car in total owed me £3935) and he offered me a £3000 refund.
Trading standards couldnt do anything really, I had 3 choices -
1 to accept the 3000 refund offer
2 pay half towards an independant report on the car (approx 200 each for dealer and myself) to prove/disprove my claims
3 take him to court (which would initially cost more than the 200 for the report plus hearing costs plus costs for a report any way)
The dealer was more than aware of the fact Im a single mum and couldnt possibly afford the latter 2 options the week before xmas!
We then agreed on a refund of £3100. I was left with no choice and had to accept a loss of £835 on a car i had only had 4 mths and driven approx 1600 miles mostly locally as i didnt trust the car.
THEN HE HAD THE NERVE TO ASK ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO HIS PREMISES FOR HIM ON HIS TRADE PLATES?! I think not!
How on earth is this possibly fair?
Go buy a car from there, dont go buy a car....the choice is yours
P,s He is now reselling the car for £3295 with an advertised 79k on the clock and a brand new MOT thanks to the work i had done on it! Only problem is it had just under 81k when he had it back off me!0 -
AVOID THIS DEALER. Promised a full service which was not carried out. Cost me an extra £500 elsewhere. Will be pursuing legal action.0

Much of this sounds like you set your expectations too high.
You bought a car with legal but low tread tyres then later wanted him to pay to replace them. Your problem for not checking the car you subsequently bought. A number of other things are easily attributed to fair wear and tear. Dealers aren't liable for wear and tear on a 9year old car.
The only real issue you say is the DPF which it seems he fixed.
Also possibly the fan, but a fan staying on can be as simple as a coolant temperature sensor.0 -

Doesn't a dealer have a responsibility to advertise the car honestly. So if the tyres were bald and it was advertised as having new tyres...regardless of whether the person buying should have checked them...it'd be misrepresented?
Not sure how far that goes with statements such as "perfect condition for its age"?0 -
I wouldn't worry about arcons post, the post he quoted was well over a year old...Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
