Howden accepts Amex, popular place for large irregular purchases so worth mentioning I think. It's not on the list on the front page or http://www.whoacceptsamex.co.uk/
  • B&Q and H&M doesn't accept American card.
  • I've recently got my AMEX card and so far it has worked in the Co-op and McDonalds. It doesn't work in Jack Jones clothing, Subway.
But I keep sticking it in and hoping for the best until it works.

Subway is a another franchise, all the ones in Norwich (As far as I'm aware) accept it, but I have been to others around the country who haven't.

No problem. Also as a tip online, if the merchant doesn't take Amex, check if they take Paypal. All you need to do then is click paypal and then check out as guest with your Amex details.

Just been approved for an Amex.

I've heard that there is something going on where you get charged in US dollars even for domestic paypal purchases. Can't find any recent information.

Has that been sorted out completely or are they still doing it and refunding the forex charge?

That was sorted out a few years ago. UK Amex cards get charged in sterling, if they are buying something in sterling. So just like any other UK credit or debit card now.

    thanks for the info...
  • with the advancement in technology and using mobile as a credit card, I'm wondering why not all cards are accepted everywhere. Should not there be an uniformity? By the way, I like the color of Amex :)
