ref the first page, don't Boots accept Amex? It's one of the 36 companies listed on the 'welcome to Amex' pamphlet you get when you get a card0

Boots and Virgin Holidays both accept Amex... or Virgin did a year ago, and Boots definitely do right now.0

Hi,
Wanderforth Holidays accept Amex - wanderforth.com0 -
From my walk around town this weekend, the following all accepted my Amex card;
Accessorize
Boots
Frankie & Benny's
Marks & Spencer (Cafe + Food Hall)
Sainsburys0 -
Today my mum tried Tesco in Scotland, Stirling. They did not accept it, the girl on the checkout said it costs too much. Also rejected at Lidl / Holland Barrett but expected that.0

Tesco should accept it.
Maybe they don't 'like' to accept it (because it may cost them more) but they really should take it.0 -

I think that may well be ignorance on behalf of the shop assistant as Tesco definitely do accept Amex, both in store and online. I never ask if a shop takes the card as it leaves you open to someone who doesn't recognise the name saying no. Just stick it in the machine and see what happens. The only places that I haven't had it accepted are Ikea, Burger Kings (thought that was strange) and at a Spar shop.0 -

+1 for just sticking it in the card machine. Never ask. If the computer says no then so be it0 -

Spar and Burger king are franchises. Some accept Amex and some do not.
My local Spar does; have been to some that haven't though.
Tesco definitly do. I always try and stick it in because often places will say no because of bad training.
Some places just don't want to take it but do though. My local Indian said they didn't accept it (I knew they did as it was showing on shop small map) and I said "Well thats a shame for you, I don't have any other cards, thanks for the free meal" and they soon changed their mind and took it :P0
