Who Does/Does Not Accept Amex?

I dont really care who accept Amex as since they reduced the cashback I now use my Morgan Stanley card as they pay 1% CB up to 2k and 0.5% after that. However will keep my Amex open till I receive my Cash Back around December/January.

What would be really useful is if AMEX had a page on their website which listed all of the companies which they had signed up in alpha order so we could check ..

It's quite embarassing having to ask do you accept AMEX, and then more often than not being told no!

Nice idea, gtrevor, but the list would be miles long and not very easy to use.

Most supermarkets DO accept Amex, apart from Somerfield Group (i.e. SOF and Kwik-Save). So do most petrol stations.

For many people those two outlets make up a fair proportion of their credit card spending and hence makes the card worth having.

Somerfields do accept amex.

I use mine all the time there.

Oops - sorry. Kwik Save definitely don't and they are owned by Somerfield. Inconsistent policies then.

The reason I put that posting in was cause I used Amex in a Richer Sounds (Croydon branch) in Sept. I had no problems using it then, they were quite happy to take the card, no questions asked. Also it was for a fairly substancial amount.

Looks like Richer Sound have an inconsistent policy. Their Southampton branch were not keen to accept Amex although they did say they would if I really insisted. Maybe I should have really insisted ::)

Grrrrr ASDA rejected my Amex today, I was fuming.

I held the till up, walked slowly outside to the cash point then walked slowly back to the till to pay cash for my goods.

On leaving the carpark I went straight into the garage, filled the car with petrol and used my Amex Card!!!

ASDA pee me off with their attitude.

About 10 years ago had a Amex company credit card, absolutely useless, there were so many places that did not accept it that told company to get rid. I did ask one retailer the reason and they said Amex were very bad at paying up???? :-/ Personally after that experience would not touch anything to do with American Express.

As a side note... hate ASDA, went to a Walmart in Florida same rubbishy attitude. I don't care if they are a bit cheaper, would rather go where my custom is appreciated!! ::)

I'm used to AMEX getting accepted in some places and not in others in the U.K.
However I do a lot of shopping in France and I know AMEX is accepted by places like petrol stations and hotels but I can't get any major Supermarket like Carrefore, LeClerc, Cora and Intermarche to accept it.
These places are the French equivalents of Tesco and Sainsbury.
I wrote and complained to AMEX but they weren't interested.
Are they're any big retailers in France that accept AMEX?
