Hi Mistermick.
I am under the impression that with such a low income you should be entitled to some help to top it up.
At least a huge reduction in your council tax bill, but this you may already be getting.
Without prying could it possiblybe due to you being over the threshold with some savings?
Only if you are below, I think it is. £6000 in savings would full eligibility kick in.
IF you were to have less than £6000 then you would possibly be eligible for some form of income support (or whatever it is now) and that would fulfill the criteria for a free boiler.0 -
MisterMick wrote: »Hello Everyone,
A few months ago I applied for a free boiler being as I have an original 1980 Glow Worm 38 space saver boiler in my place, the woman who called me back stated that I have to be claiming one of several government available schemes including tax credits etc etc, when I told her I do not claim anything at all I started to make enquiries about what I can and cannot claim for, I was 59 at the time (now 60) and told by DWP that my private pension (only income) equivalent to £88.40p / week is over the present limit of £70.60p therefore I am not entitled to any help at all but according to age concern the minimum everyone should be getting to live on is £145.60p / week, I own my own place and the only help I get is a reduction in council tax.
All this information I took along to Citizen Advice Bureau who confirmed the DWP findings I do NOT qualify for any help. may I ask you all for help please.
Hello, to qualify for a new boiler through ECO you have to fit in the eligibility criteria which can be seen here Unfortunately if you do not fall in the criteria shown on the link you cannot get a new boiler through the scheme.
If you wanted a new boiler and didn't have the money available you could get it through a Green Deal plan which would mean no upfront cost for the install and the boiler is paid for through the savings made by having the new boiler and you also get a cash back voucher from the government for £270 once it has been installed.
The company you are already in contact with should be able to help you with this or contact a local company which can be found here"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Hi Fellsider,
Strangely enough nobody has ever asked me about savings but I suppose "big brother" can do automatic checks these days, all people have asked me about is my income. Thanks for your reply.0 -

No mention of savings before they fitted my new boiler.0 -

Not questioned about my savings either.0 -
If you met the criteria because you fulfilled the requirements then of course you would not have been asked about your savings.
It is nothing to do with the ECO scheme.
It is when you apply for any benefits or assistance from the DWP that your savings be taken into account.
It was never suggested that people who meet the criteria would be asked about savings.
ONLY those who apply for benefits/assistance from the DWP in order to be eligible for the scheme would be asked about income, savings etc. By the DWP.
If you are applying and been accepted for a free boiler then you will already have been proven eligible.
If you look at the thread you'll see that MisterMick does not get any benefits/assistance which would make him eligible for the scheme.
As he has been turned down by the DWP for assistance and didn't know why it could possibly be because he was over the threshold for savings.0 -
Does anybody know if there are "deals" on old oil fired boilers, or is it all "Gas & Air"0

Yes you can get new condensing oil boiler through ECO if you fall into the eligibility criteria if you look on page 11 here it shows a full list of what is available through the scheme. However I don't know of any companies actually offering it but I am sure there is."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Something I wanted to flag up. I stumbled across this on a local website:Breaking News:-
From the 1st April 2014, 100% grants will be available for all cavity wall insulation.
Hmmmmm, I thought. CWI sales seem pretty shark like to me and there probably should be an asterisk saying "only if you receive certain benefits etc etc".
But the consultation document says:EASY TO TREAT CAVITY WALL INSULATION AS A PRIMARY MEASURE UNDER CERO
To allow insulation of easy to treat cavity walls installed from 1 April 2014 to be included as an allowable primary measure under CERO.

AFAIK CERO is not benefits based... so could the original website claim be true? Does everyone get free CWI now?0 -

Yes
CERO and CSCO have never needed benefits it's just Affordable Warmth you need benefits for. Affordable Warmth covers all measures.
CSCO used to be the lowest 15% income areas and now the lowest 25% and that does all types of insulation (excluding solid wall and hard to treat cavity)
CERO used to cover hard to treat cavity wall and solid walls. Now covers normal cavities and loft insulation aswell in all areas."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0
