Hi

My partner has received a letter supposedly from Lloyds TSB letting her know that she is due an amount for PPI, even though she has never put a claim in. The letter is on Lloyds headed paper but the logo is black and white instead of the usual colour headed paper. There is a pre-paid envelope with the address: PPI Team, PO BOX 814, Leeds.

Does this sound like something legit or could somone be phishing for info?

I don't know where to go from here, but she does think she could be due some PPI money?!

Thanks

Phone up Lloyds on the telephone number for their complaints on their website and ask them.

    The website has the address:
Lloyds TSB, PPI Customer Services, BX1 1LT

So, there is enough reason to be suspicious. Plus, Lloyds dont write out saying there is an amount due and ask for a response. They tell you you a complaint has been successful or not. The only other letters going out are CCL letters which invite you to complain if you feel you have been mis-sold. Some people have misread that letter (quite a lot actually if you go by these forums).

    Thanks Dunstonh.

It's strange as when I started to type PPI Team, PO Box 814 into Google, it automatically predicted the full address, yet didn't come up with anything to do with Lloyds. It's really concerning!

I'll get my partner to call them then!

What is the telephone number in the letter?

Sounds dodgy, purely on the basis that it's PO box - why would any major bank use it? plus the address given on the Ombudsman site is totally different.
I'd give Lloyds a call anyway, even if it's to make them aware of it, and then promptly ignore it!

I recommend you e-mail consumer@claimsregulation.gov.uk and report the matter - preferably attaching a scan of the letter.
  • Just to say that my husband has also just received a letter today with exactly the same information, including a a leaflet from the financial ombudsman, quoting loan numbers which are correct. We were concerned by the black and white logo and the unexpectedness of it and are going to go into branch. However, I'm not sure what information they can Phish for, as you can tick you would like to receive a cheque rather than a bank transfer and then just sign and date the form. It seems like a massive amount of paperwork to get a date and signature, but we are checking it!

Banks often have post box numbers. The return address on the back of every statement I've received has a po box number. My son has received a letter from HSBC asking if he'd like to claim a PPI refund on a loan he took out ages ago. He'd completely forgotten about it but he'll send the form back and see what happens.

It would appear that they are quite likely to be genuine letters from lloyds.

It does mention in them a 0845 number to ring if you have any concerns about the letter or write to a PO Box in Leeds.

They also come with a questionnaire to complete to make a PPI refund claim.
