thanks for that...I wasnt expecting the lot to be witten off . Maybe a small percentage and then I can try to pay the rest off.
You might get £50 as an apology, but you'd even have to push for that.
Less than a month ago you were looking to buy a platinum diamond ring - perhaps you should settle this debt before doing so?0 -
lol I've bought that now.0

If I want to challenge the amount due to the incompetence of the Tax office. Could I? and how would I go about it? regardless if i win or loose.0

Afraid I don't think you have any basis to challenge them.
I am amazed that someone who had a problem setting up the DD in the first place didn't subsequently check it was then operating properly.
However, if you believed it was being paid, as others have said, surely it is just sat in your account waiting to make your proper contribution to the public services you benefit from.0 -

As you are a person who doesn't check their bank statements (trust you do now) then you probably just know how much is in your account as probably most of us do. Therefore you must have allowed for the £2,000 to have been taken from the account and as it hasn't been then it should still be there ready to pay. It's someone else's fault.0

Hi, how did you manage to go 10months without paying your council tax? I am 2 months behind since April I have to pay it myself when CT benefit was scrapped. I have asked for more time and they said there is a backlog of taking people to court since the end of council tax benefit.I hear things are getting so bad people are starting to have to live within their means.0

Come on, you know that you didn't take responsibility for your council bill. You didn't check that the DD was in place 2nd, you didn't check your bank account and you spent the money clearly not budgeting for it. They might be at fault for not taking the money monthy, but it is still your own fault that the money is not sitting comfortably in your account, ready to be paid in one lump sum.0

ok its my fault then

The OP hasn't deliberately not paid his council tax through some magic trick.
It's down to the incompetence of his local council who've failed to action 2 direct debits that the OP tried to set up.
OP - local council where my Mum & Dad lived failed to bring forward a direct debit that had been in effect for several years, despite them saying they would and confirming that payment would be by DD.
They got a letter a few months later to say the council were taking them to court for non-payment. Very distressing for them, I had to drop everything and go and sort it out and calm them down.
A few sharp latters later, I'd got the council to agree to waive one month's payment as a goodwill gesture so maybe worth a try.
And do start to check your bank statements fully on a regular basis.
With all this identity fraud, you need to make sure there's no suspicious activity on your account.0
