I overheard the OH watching the You Tube clip. I didn't know who it was speaking, but all I said from across the room was "That woman sounds like a complete c**t".

I think I summed her up quite nicely.

It's true, she is... not a nice person...

BUT

There are lots of people out there who make judgements on the basis of someone's name.

If you want to get a tattoo on your face as an adult then you are making a powerful statement - I know some lovely people with extreme body art and they quite like alienating those who make snap judgements. BUT they are adults.

They don't want to get a job in the foreign office, or as a teacher.

In an ideal world people would not look down on those with names like Pixie Trixabell or Chardonnay, but parents need to know that there are some nasty, small-minded people out there who will judge someone by their name.

Meh, I think I'm alone in the universe, but I certainly agree with aspects of what she's saying - even if I don't agree with how she's saying it....and I wouldn't call myself "nasty" or "small minded".

I certainly feel it's fair enough to judge parents by what they call their children...I guess for the same reason you state - who wants their child to be bullied or miss out on opportunities because of the name you give them - even if that shouldn't be the case....If you're willing to give your child a really silly name (and I've seen some *unbelievably* silly ones, trust me), that has to say something about you....and it makes me wonder what else you might do with your child that I may not "approve of"...

I can't see it really effecting much, though...I'd let my kids play with who they wanted, although I'd certainly be the judge of who was allowed to play at my house...and I'd certainly assess the parents of anyone my children wanted to play with - silly name or not.
