What do you do if the dealer is no longer there? I purchased a ford car from ford dealer in 1995 and have noticed on old statements that I was paying ppi to a company called consolidated life, I was told that because i had only just started work I needed cover. Do I have a claim if so where do I go?

I'm in a similar situation, I purchased a car late in 2001 and only discovered that I was paying PPI to Consolidated Life yesterday as I was going through old statements resulting from having sent a SAR to HBOS (old account with Halifax). I made this connection as I already have a complaint with the Ombudsman who, with a bit of digging on their part and my part (1. sent letter to dealers - unable to help; 2. referred to Ombudsman; 3. contacted Blackhorse; 4 eventually found out that the finance was underwritten by Genworth (who have a very slim connection with Consolidated Life)). Genworth have accepted that misselling did take place as they were regulated back then.
My case is still with the Ombudsman, not sure if I'll get anything but sure nothing ventured nothing gained and I'm only a few quid out of pocket.
Hope this helps.

The ombudsman won't have any authority over someone who wasn't regulated prior to 2005 no matter what they have told you.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

I purchased a peugeot car through the passport scheme in late February 2005 I let it run for a few moths then changed my mind and paid the agreement off in cash.
I think I may have had PPI could someone help me and tell me how to go about finding out if I did, The dealer has now closed0 -

Your first point of call is the seller (the dealer in this case) as they carry liability for the sale. However, they are closed. You can ask the lender if they have any records. Although they may now be destroyed.
It should be noted that even if you had PPI, you would have received a relatively pro-rata rebate with the early settlement figure. So, you would have paid only around a couple of months worth of premium. Even if you had it and you are not sure.
With the dealership gone, you may have to use the FSCS for any complaint unless the finance company take on liability for dealers.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Hi there, I had a new car on Peugeot's Passport Finance back in 2003. wondered if you had any advice on how to go about finding out if I have any PPI to reclaim from this as I have no paper work. I kept the car and the finance all the way through until the end and paid the final fee to keep the car. I know which Dealership sold it to me and the reg of the car but no other details.
Any info on how to proceed would be great

Re-starting this thread again.
I have claimed back lots of PPI from loans and the last one to tackle is the finance i was sold when i bought a Peugeot 106 back in October 2000. I used their "passport" finance deal thingy where i got free insurance with the car.
I remember being sold the "Credit Protection Insurance" because i called them to query it as i thought i was being charged for insurance when it was supposed to be free.. i WAS 19 at the time so didn't really know what i was doing.
I'll try to remember to keep this updated as i go along the process of claiming it all back.I want to be debt free before i'm old!!0 -
Hi, I appreciate that this thread was started many years ago, but what happened with your claim? I'm in the same situation as you in regards to Peugeot finance. Mine is from 2000 too. I've struggled to get information on who the finance company was. I 100% had ppi, so want to do my best to get it back!!
Any help would be much appreciated!0 -

This posters usually (not always) make 1 or 2 posts then never come back so unlikely anyone would reply to you.
The finance company is irrelevant as they didn't sell you anything, the dealer did. As it's 2000 they were not regulated so your complaint is overSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
