I've got to say I never understand when people talk about how their children's school shoes don't last long (other than for growth reasons). DH polishes the kids Clarks school shoes afew times a week and they last and last, even with the hammering DS gives them with his non-stop football playing, climbing, etc... Never had a problem with them "wearing out".

A few years ago my DD had a group of girls over straight from school for her 13th birthday. In the hallway were a row of dirty shoes. The girls changed and went out and when they came back they found all their shoes sparkling as OH had given them the works!! :rotfl:

OH always used to clean my boots for me too as he said polishing them protected them and kept them water resistant. I did draw the line at having the toes bulled!

I know it's old fashioned but when I was at school we went home and got changed. We were never taken shopping etc still in our uniform and certainly never "went out to play" in it. It's no wonder they don't last.

Ditto - we had to change out of our school uniforms as soon as we got home, but wouldn't then necessarily chuck the evening-only clothes into the washing basket after only one wash.

My brother, starting prep (day) school at the age of 7, wore shirt, tie, shorts all year round, dry-clean-only blazer, and knee-high socks with garters. He was usually quite keen to change out of that lot!

it may seem reasonable to those who have one child at a school - but, what about those who have twins and an older or younger sibling at that school? and one set of uniform isn't enough - a child needs two sets of the basic uniform. That is six sets of uniform - nearly £300!

I understand what your saying but at the end of the day if you choose to have children then you must accept associated costs, it kinda like Xmas it comes along every year, when you plan your family then you should factor these things in

I don't think the prices in the OP were too bad at all, and certainly no cause for action....not even to exercise newly learned legal skills. One of which should be - pick your battles!!

    I love this! :T

I said something similar pages and pages back - but nowhere near as eloquently. :)

One of the best pieces of advice I received in the first year of my law degree was, "a lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client"

When I worked in Court I always used to dread the people who would represent themselves. They were either just totally ignorant and too terrified to speak, or thought they knew everything, didn't and looked really stupid. If I was interviewing someone who wasn't being represented I just used to tell them to just stand up and say sorry for their actions. The number of times I used to sit there willing people to just say sorry!! :D

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

I'm still puzzling over which particular piece of legislation the OP plans to use for this legal action.

Judicial review would be completely inappropriate - clearly the school hasn't acted in a way which no reasonable school would act.

I think in this case, the phrase "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing" applies perfectly to the OP.

I think OP's prices are cheap for uniform too.

When my daughter started high school we bought all her uniform, 2 weeks later we got a letter saying the shirts, tie and PE kit were changing after Christmas
Apart from yr 11 everyone had to turn up in the new uniform after Christmas. Surely the best time to change uniform is at the start of a school year? :(
