Will my Nationwide statement show the name of the person i sent a cheque to?

Options
I just recently sent a cheque to someone, and was wondering if my bank statement will state the name of the person i sent the cheque to. I asked a friend this question, who told me that only the cheque number is shown on the statement, and not the name of the person. Is this correct? Is this the case will all banks, or just a specific few?

This is my first experience with sending a cheque, so excuse me for what might be a stupid question. I just find it quite surprising that the name of the person wouldn't be stated on the statement.

I don't know of any banks that show the same of the recipient of a cheque on a statement, however it would be useful.

No it won't show the persons name if its a personal cheque, just the cheque number and the amount.

Cheques are sorted by machines which just read the sort code and account no. Your bank could only show the name of the person you'd paid if the cheque was sorted and input manually, and providing that they could read your handwriting. This would be extremely expensive to implement, so it's never going to happen.

You should detail the payee on the cheque book stub. This will then allow you to cross reference who you made it payable to when you get the cheque number on your statement.

Alternatively you could pay the bank for a copy cheque. Or pay it in via a deposit machine if your bank has one of those that prints a copy at the time of deposit.

Don't expect 21st century outcomes from what is very much a backwards and outdated method of payment.

For £5 you could get a copy of the front and back of the cheque
It would have the stamp of bank the account was paid into on the front and usually the customers account details on the back.. Obviously you would only want to pay £5 if it was important to have this info.

Surely you can remember who you sent it to if it's the first one you've ever sent?

Our bank shows the name of who we sent the cheque to on the statement and in online banking, but not the app.

I'm interested in this too, since that information isn't recorded anywhere except on the cheque itself, meaning the bank concerned must take the time to read the handwriting on each and every cheque and record it in its systems.

    Or that's rubbish.
