Tesco clothing - rant - no customer service

I bought some clothing when on holiday recently - returned some of it the next day and they kept my receipt as part of the return.
No problem - i'd tried everything else on (in store when I bought it) and it fitted fine.
Also all bought on my clubcard so I figured I had a receipt there.
When I got home I realised they'd left the security tag on one item so emailed customer services. At home my nearest store is 2 hours away (each way) - so I couldn't just pop in, what did they suggest?
I expected a refund or replacement, or at worse they ask I return the item (and reimburse the cost) and then they would replace/refund.
In short they refuse to do anything at all other than telling me I have to go back to a store - (no they won't cover the costs of that).
Yes they could check my clubcard account to prove i'd paid for it - yes they did have a returns options for home delivery items but no - they wouldn't do anything at all to help - I had to travel 2 hours (each way) to a store at my cost or throw the item out and absorb the cost.
Utterly disgusted as it's obviously they're fault and they just refuse to do anything.

Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

Couldn't you have taken it off yourself? I have done it loads of times at home with a screwdriver. A little bit of force and it comes offFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0

loads of times? this is the first time a store have made this mistake with me - to be honest i'd be worried about damaging the clothing pulling at the tag or trying to lever it of....I want it looking brand new as paid for not with a gapping hole or pulled material.
If there's a skill to take it of with a screwdriver please share - there's nothing to actually screw/uncrew on the tagDon’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.

About 10 times over many years.
If it is the kind with the flat disk and the pin goes in you just have to get the flat part of screwdriver down the side of the pin into the disk and wiggle it back and forth just be careful of the pinFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -

Reminds me of the "magnet in my pocket accused of shoplifting" thread.

Can't you just ask a local shop with the same de-tagger to do it? If you take your receipt to prove purchase I'm sure someone will help you out.0

MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Why would they have kept your receipt? They usually just cross off the things you've been refunded.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Any reputable retailer will NOT detag a garment with a security tag from another shop even if they have a receipt!!!
Normally if you have other items on your receipt when you have had a refund you get your receipt back with the item crossed off that has been refunded. Any decent retailer (I'm not sure if that includes Tesco as I've had some pretty terrible customer service from them in the past) should offer to refund your travel costs as it was their mistake. Your problem however is you have no receipt so nothing to prove it wasn't stolen. All you can do is try and escalate your problem through their head office and see how far you get but I doubt you will get very far.0
