One already there....but I want to be free of the sky shackles if at all possible
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Once you cancel, you are free of Sky already. You'll basically be only able to view Free To Air channels (apart from BT Sport) and Sky will have no further contact with you at the new address.

Using theSky box without subscription is simply the most money saving option available to you.

Yes, the box belongs to you now and, while the cancelled viewing card will cease to unscramble Sky subscription channels, it will operate as a Freesat-From-Sky card allowing you to subscribe to BT Sport.
Do note that if you are moving far from your original abode, the viewing card will still be set at the original postcode so you'll only receive the BBC1 and ITV local variants applicable to your old address.

Are you quite happy having no recording facilities?

The only way around that is to pay Sky £10 a month for the recording facilities. Not something I would consider...

I have taken down my package to the minimum in preparation to pay them 2 months payments as will cancel them as moving with them kicks off a new 12 month contract....

Wasn't aware doing a home move kicks off a new 12 month contract, are you sure about this?
