Just because it's closed to the public doesn't mean to say that it's stopped functioning.
In any case their weekend is Friday and Saturday.0 -
The trouble with the FCO advice, apart from they're a bit slow sometimes, is that it's [obviously] useless for planning a month or so in advance.
They're either too slow, or they jump the gun!
So they can't win.
If I was of a nervous disposition, which is obviously the case with a lot of folk, then the last place I'd be booking a holiday to is anywhere involved in the Arab Spring.0 -

The embassy in Cairo is always ahead of the curve
I particularly like the first paragraph on their front page
This is a historic moment for Egypt and the region. Egypt’s transition to a democratic state has the potential to be the role model for many other states in the region.............0 -

update from travel agent****EGYPT DEMONSTARTIONS UPDATE 1****
we have been advised that a curfew has been
declared for Cairo and nine other provinces, we have not been able to obtain a full list of the
provinces that are included but have been able to establish that it does include the following areas;
• Alexandria
• Suez
• Sharm El Sheik
The curfew comes into effect today at 19:00 local time and will last until 06:00 the following morning. We are
led to believe that the curfew will be in place for 30 days. At this stage it is not clear what the curfew involves.
We will continue to update passengers as and when information becomes availableIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
Apparently the curfew was lifted in Sharm today. I heard this from someone who lives locally (but is from the UK).0

Curfew was lifted today in Sharm. Only in place for one night.0
