One of them wasn't even allowed an afternoon off on the Friday before half term so she could get a decent flight to get to her wedding abroad that was on the Saturday morning - even though another teacher was free and volunteered to cover the one lesson she had that afternoon.
I think you must have misread my post, I was skitting the posters moaning about being fined for taking their offspring out of school for holidays.
The skit was intended to mean what would parents do if all the teachers decided to take holidays in term time?RIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. The other poster made it sound as if teachers take time off willy nilly during term time for holidays- the point of my example is that this is extremely rare if it happens at all.
The other poster (me) was not teacher bashing, far from it.RIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. In answer to Jackieblack's post...
Meanwhile, in the real world........ :wall:
what makes you think that there aren't other jobs in which this happens? Tradesmen/craftsmen are often expected to supply their own tools.
- for which they can claim tax rebates.
The difference is that stickers and 'pocket money prizes' are things that you don't NEED to do your job, you may want them, you may think they are nice, but they are not NECESSARY
They were examples. There are plenty of other examples.
And why does EVERY thread about schools turn into a 'we're so hard done by' moan from teachers
I never moaned;)
And what has any of that got to do with penalty notices for term-time holidays?
very little
But when everyone else is moaning about paying penalties teachers have to take their holidays during holiday time. When it's more expensive.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

A choice they make when they CHOOSE to become teachers
(Similarly, it is also a choice made by parents when they choose to have children, as is the choice to take their holidays and pay the penalty notice)Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -

Do you undertake training on your days off from work?
Most of use don't get the enormous amount of holiday they do. They can get off of their lazy workshy @rses and do their training in 3 days of the summer holiday can't they. Not exactly bl00dy rocket science.
And no, I'm not being biased here, my best mate is a secondary teacher and he says exactly the same.0 -
I'm a teacher! I love my job. We have 4 children and we pay a LOT for holidays.
When I search online for a holiday and find that it can DOUBLE (yes DOUBLE) in price when the school holidays kick in, it makes me so angry!
When I decided I was going to be a teacher I wasn't really thinking about how much holidays would cost. I also didn't plan to divorce my husband and meet someone else and end up with 4 children between us!
Would love to pay less for holidays but am stuck with my great job so we just pay up each year! But to be honest I wouldn't take my kids out of school anyway if I could..10 days is a lot of time to miss school. Some things are only taught once and a child misses that opportunity!

Its rubbish and just another money spinning ploy.
The Head Teacher should have the authority to take each case of requested absence on its own merit.0 -
But some Head Teachers don't want to have to take the responsibility for making that decision and possibly alienating parents by doing so. They feel that they're caught between a rock and a hard place - if they say yes the parents are happy but the LA will want to know why, if they say no the LA will be happy but parents won't be.collywollys wrote: »The Head Teacher should have the authority to take each case of requested absence on its own merit.
When a parent asks why their request has been declined it's much easier for the Head Teacher to blame the governent's policy not allowing them to give permission.Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0
