Depends on how many other children she's taking care of during the day. And I agree with the other poster who mentioned that having a10 month old to feed breakfast to might leave her short of time to get the other kids ready and off to school on time.

It might be odd of me, but it hadn't occurred to me that a parent wouldn't give their child breakfast before leaving the house. If I was pushed for time I'd give kidlet something to eat on the way there.

I used to be a childminder and sometimes would give children breakfast and sometimes not.If you do not have time and the food would be unwelcome for the little one that early can you not compromise and take something for the childminder to give him at the playgroup?

Just advise her that he will not eat that early in the morning. If you get a bad response I would say she is not professional as the needs of the children in her care must be met.

We give our little one breakfast before childminder, after all when we get there the childminder is about to start school runs as I guess most childminders are at that time in the morning.

What I'd say is were you aware she had school drops off when you signed up? If you drop him at 8 and she's to get other kids to school at 9, does she drive or walk there? If she walks, some kids can doddle, so would that leave time for her to feed him?

That being said she shouldn't have said she'd feed him breakfast if she knew she didn't have the time!

I must admit I just assumed that babies and young children would have breakfast at home before going to a childminders.

OP, when my babies were the same age as yours they had porridge or weetabix made with formula. Maybe you could try to give your baby this instead of a bottle first thing. As others have said by the time your baby settles at your childminders, especially if the little one has a full tummy from the bottle, it may well be time for the school run. As Joyful says maybe as a solution you could supply the formula, hot water flask and porridge for your childminder to make breakfast at the playgroup or if you are really pushed for time, could your OH feed baby when in the carseat in the back of the car on your way to drop him at work.

I am a Childminder, and I have my meals times at specific times. For a child to have breakfast, they have to arrive for 8am. I obviously give a bit of leeway, but realistically some children can taken 20-25 minutes to eat breakfast, and with teeth brushing at 8:30, then starting getting shoes / coats on, we only just get to school on time, and I only live 2 minutes away from a school.

If a child was suppose to have breakfast, and hadn't because they had run late, I would probably give them a banana on the way to school, and a piece of toast at toddlers (assuming we were going there) and then do teeth brushing when back at home.

Big thing with your Childminder is what time does she need to leave to start the school run and see how you can work together to resolve this (it would be an excellent example to show Ofsted her working in partnership with parents practice :rotfl:)

My daughter's nursery offers breakfast for the kids that start at 8am but not for those that start at 9am. I do tend to give her something at home though because she seems to prefer my breakfast over what she's offered at nursery.

I think Bitter and Twisted meant that as OP stated she had a 15 minute journey in the car with baby to drop her OH at work prior to her journey to the childminders that OH could feed the 10 month old child during this journey.

If you drop your child off at about 8 and she has a school run to do she may not have time to give him breakfast until she gets back, which would mean a very late breakfast and probably being late for the playgroup she takes him to.

Why not swap things over and give him breakfast first, then he can take his milk with him.

    I agree with this.

By ten months he should be having breakfast first anyway (imo) no reason he can't munch a piece of toast in his chair whilst mummy gets organised for work (ie nearby so he's not unsupervised before anyone says) and take his milk with him in a beaker. Job done, no one required to get up at stupid o clock because it won't take him any longer to eat toast than it does to do his bottle now.
