Sorry - what a hassle, but the police will not do anything, as Banks look after their own fraud cases unless their themselves refer the matter for police action.
PayPal is a European Bank (Luxembourg) so a SC action would simply throw money away - you need a European SC action which is a different ball game. It also costs more.
Also if you went the chargeback route - it should be rejected, but bank staff are often incompetent and may a facilitate this. In which case, PP will default you on your Credit File.
Far better to pursue them to resolve as tat will be he only way to get satisfaction. Hold out for some compensation by outlining their own incompetence, but the amounts you mentioned were not reasonable.0 -
