Actually I would have thought that ASDA would have replaced this for you.

It's got nothing to do with responsibility or procedures, but everything to do with profits.

ASDA calculate that the average loyal customer will spend around £20k with them before they switch to a competitor. A litre of vodka cost around £15. ASDA understand the correlation between customer loyalty/satisfaction and profit more than a lot of companies out there (which is one of the reasons that they are so sucessful).

I would call the store and try again......you've nothing to lose.

Quite simple. The original poster didn't pack it properly.

I'm sick to death of people thinking everything that they do which goes wrong is someone elses responsibility.

These stores have insurance, and they realise customer satisfaction is important. If someone offers to replace your broken bottle free of charge, it would be incredibly stupid not to take up the offer.

    Scenario,

You carelessly drop a bottle it breaks, trolley boy comes running to you to help and says CS will replace this for you, come with me and I'll tell them you dropped it.

    Do you

    a) Say thanks and follow boy and take replacement from CS
    b) Say no it was my fault please don't trouble yourself

This happened to me in Tesco (years ago) I chose 'a', I had never heard of this policy and would have just gone home (after picking up most of the glass myself).

In this thread the OP had heard of the policy and merely enquired if they would replace it out of goodwill. And you have a problem with that?

Thats a bit black and white isnt it?

What about the people who cant pack a carrier bag? They have checkout people who can pack a bag for you if your a simpleton.

If you cant put something in a carrier bag without making a dogs dinner of it then why should these stores pay for it.

The cost is reflected back to the products.

So we end up paying for it.

    Moral of story.
Practice packing a carrier bag at home before going shopping.

How much do you think the likes of Tesco pay out for things dropped in carparks each year? Do you think it is a regular occurence or do you think it is a rare event? I rather think it is a rare event. So the cost to Tesco and indirectly to us is minute.

Why should Tesco sponsor the clumsy?

Sorry, do not think it is someone elses responsibility. It was merely a rant after a particularly bad week and more to do with cs attitude and rudeness than lost vodka, which on the scale of things was the least of my problems.

I merely asked if they had any sort of insurance that covered this. It used to be the case where if a broken bottle had the seal intact it was replaced by the manufacturer.

    But the intention was there.

I know it used to be the case that if the seal was still intact, it was covered, but not sure if that still applies.

    Remember.

The intent was there, if you build on the intent it will become and action.
Ergo, wants someone to pay for something which isnt there fault. Its called S.O.P (SOmeone elses Problem) and eventually it will become S.O.P (standard operating procedure).

    Thank you in advance.

The intent was not there. I did not see any opportunity to get a freebie.

    Scenario as follows:

    Pay for shopping.
    Leave store to car park.
Trolley bumps. Vodka drops from (obviously carelessly packed )trolley..
Me thinks bu##er, cant leave broken glass etc, go to customer service with it. Ask if they can do anything.
No reply from him, he just lifts phone(rudeness)
Ask them to dispose of it (again rudeness) when they grudgingly take bag.

It is only LATER I remember the unbroken seal policy that used to be in place and wondered if this was still the case.

Should I have left bag and broken glass where it fell.

At no point did I blame anyone else for my misfortune or expect them to pay.
    for it.

Perhaps if you had read the post in its entirety you would have understood this. IT WAS MERELY TO LET OFF A BIT OF STEAM.

As is probably in common with a lot of people, it is the little things that get to you. The days events had been particularly nastly. I had a tyre blowout. etc. Then my son had an accident and wrote his car off. He walked away with only bruising. Had just been to see the car and pay for it immediately before going to Asda and dropping the bloody vodka. What was more on my mind was "what if" my son had not survived the accident.

Before you assume I am going to blame someone else for these events, NO I AM NOT, and never have done. And no I am not making an insurance claim for the car, towing and hospital bill either.

Before getting slated for these comments, I should explain that son did have fully comp insurance and we are not claiming on it as both boys being young drivers were told that driving responsibly and carefully was their responsibility and would not be getting their cars replaced automatically if they had an accident. Hence, hard and expensive lesson for them.

    Rant over

Why should Tesco sponsor the clumsy?

Because it makes business sense to do so, or are you going to say that Britains most successful company has got it wrong?

How nasty do some people have to be, I was always told if I had nothing nice to say then shut up and walk away!.....no doubt ill be shot down for that now.
I know its been said but the OP only wanted to let off steam, I presume thats why it is on the vent board!

It annoys me when people accidently break things (in store) and walk away and leave it, I once watched a lady knock over 3 bottles of wine she turned red and ran off......whats that all about????
