Dropped litre of vodka in car park

Went to Asda yesterday, got a big shop and on way back to car a bag with a litre of vodka fell out of trolley and smashed.
I went to cs and asked if they had any kind of policy to cover it. He didnt even answer but just lifted his phone. Another member of staff came and I told her. Her only comment was a sarcastic "it fell out the trolley" and she went off to make a phone call.
She came back and said her line manager said no. If the bag had burst it might have been different but they would not cover it as it fell.
I just said ok and handed her the dripping bag and glass and asked her to dispose of it.
I know it used to be the case that if the seal was still intact, it was covered, but not sure if that still applies.
Would have argued the case a bit more but son had written off his car the other night, thankfully he walked away from it unhurt apart from a couple of bruises, and we were just coming back from the recovery yard after seeing his car and paying for the tow in and scrapping the car. All in its been an expensive week actually. My tyre burst, the electric window came out and then phone call about son all on the same day, so I guess vodka is kind of unimportant, lol.
Sorry, just needed to rant a bit.

What a shame - poor you. At least you will now make sure you always have a straw in your pocket;)
Dont think they have any real responsibilty to do do anything but i guess a guesture for customer service purposes would have been a good idea0 -
Wow...all that. No wonder you brought a bottle of Vodka.
I dont think anyone would give you free bottle of Vodka if you dropped yours in the car park.0 -
I would also say that I wouldnt expect the supermarket to replace it as it had fallen out of the trolley - how did it happen? Was the trolley quite overloaded? I can imagine what a hard time you have had lately with your son writing car off and now to lose a bottle of vodka like that,Weight Loss - 102lb0

You did burn off the alcohol from the vodka spilt on the ground? Some tramp might come and sip the remains from the tarmac - he might cut his lip on the glass

I agree and if you drop something in the store you can be charged for it (remember when you were a child and your parents told you not to touch anything in the shop incase you broke it!) so Its very very much unlikely they would replace it when you dropped it outside0 -

Straw would've been a good idea, but my luck I would have added a drunk driving charge to it, lol.
Thanks for replies. Didnt really think they should replace it. Just wanted to let off steam really.0 -
I know what you mean about staff though - OH managed to drop a bottle of ectoplasm green shower gel in Tescos the other day. Stood over it and collected what I could with an empty box I found, whilst he went to find a member of staff. We apologised profusely and offered to pay, but he just started chatting into his walky talky and didn't say a single word to either of us!! It would be nice to think that they can appreciate a customer trying their best to help, but it seems wasted on them.
I hope your weekend turns out better than the rest of the week!0 -
Tt's not the fact that they didn't replace it that would annoy me, it's the attitude of the staff. Don't they have customer service training any more? When a new store opens the staff are SO nice for the first week and then it reverts to the same attitude from SOME members of staff.0

You poor thing, I was going to apply that particularly to the spilt vodka, but then read the rest of your post. I know what a shocker it is to see a wreck after you've walked away, and the 'what ifs' creep in. Out of all the bad things, the fact that your son is OK has to outweigh everything.
However, i do think Asda are mean, I did the same in Tesco years ago and they gave me another immediately!! Once, my mum parked her (very expensive, from M&S, wine, etc - expecting guests) bag of shopping behind her car while she put her handbag away, forgot the shopping ( ) got in and drove over it!! I watched from a distance, unable to make her hear - we still laugh (hollowly) today.0
