Or a 90HP 406 HDI.... No DMF on the 90's. Simple and cheap to run.0

Mondeo economy is significantly worse than VAG diesels. Checking Honest John's Real mpg site, there is no Mondeo model that averages over 50 mpg (the best is 49.1 mpg).
I've no idea about reliability though.0 -

I always thought by reading these forums that TDCI Mondeos were 100 MPH 70mpg cars due to the 6th cog....0 -

I'm purely going by this data (I've never owned a Mondeo):

I've got a 2006 Mondeo 2.0tdci estate (115bhp). It averages approx 47 to the gallon, I'm certain I could get higher mpg from it if I drove more slowly than I do! Mine has done 125k miles. It's had a replacement DPF and clutch, and EGR valve (done under warranty, only had to pay for the clutch at £200).
Would I recommend it - yes, it seems to run and run forever.
For the OP, if you could find a looked after Skoda Octavian 1.9TDi (90) I'd say consider that too, I had a 1999 model and it was brilliant.0 -

Why not try this appraisal then !
Read the Honest John review..
Ford Mondeo 2000 Very good to drive. Comfortable on long distances. Well built interior. Good value as a used buy. TDCI diesels offer great economy. Huge estate versions ideal for load lugging.
