Youview is Freeview but with IPTV. They keep promising to add to it but these promises have gone ignored since launch. Believe it or not you can't even reorder the channel lineup like you can with a cheap Freeview box

I'm currently going round in circles trying to decide how to upgrade my humax 9200.

    Choice of 3:

    Freeview
    Freesat
    Youview

    I really can't decide....

If you have an internet connection of at least 4Mbps, and an aerial that gives you freeviee reception then get a YouView box.Shop around for the best price, say Richer Sounds or Humax Direct.

As far as I'm aware, Youview is a freeview box that has internet capabilities. I think it has WiFi built in so you don't need a dongle. The advantage of it is has catch up TV built into the TV guide so it is easy to go back and look through 7 days on the guide. You can also record stuff on other channels as well if they don't have a catch up facility. I don't have one but think it is a good idea albeit a bit expensive & it will get updated probably as it gets developed as it has backing by big names apparently. To be honest I am happy with my freeview HDR box by Humax called HDR Fox T2.

Humax YouView boxes do not have built in WiFi, only an Ethernet connection.

Youview is a sort of platform within the Freeview platform.
You can get Freeview HD recorders with iPlayer etc, and that's kindof what YouView is, but it's all much better packaged and easier to use - you don't have to go through loads of menus to find an on demand programme, you can just go backwards on the TV Guide to find it.
Gambler - the 9200 is a Freeview box - so you've already got an aerial - why would you switch to FreeSat which would need a dish and (for best recording) 2 feeds? Youview is definitely best for aerials if you can afford it, otherwise you can save a good bit just going for a FreeviewHD recorder.
