I phoned British Gas a couple of months ago and was told I do qualify for a free boiler and after a some hassle was told the surveyor would come to do a survey on Monday 31st march, I received a letter today stating the same and what paper work I should make available I was concerned that there was also some paper work about payments etc so I phoned British Gas to ask why would I need that if the boiler was indeed free? they explained they have changed the rules since Monday the 24th and would be asking people to pay a amount of the cost from now on.
I did ask why I would be expected to pay if I have applied before this new rule was introduced and was told to still let them do the survey as I may not have to pay because I had applied before the new rules.
I'll update this after the visit.
Edit Update,
Apparently the rules have changed again in the last few days now if your old boiler is working and is more than 76% / 78% efficient ( not sure which yet ) you are no longer eligible :huh:0 -
Well I phoned the help (ha ha ) team today they was about as much help as a stick in the eye they don't even know what the new rules are so they said they will get back to me0

Today I have had my new free replacement boiler fitted by Dyson. I would like to complement them on their service which has been exemplary. All appointments have been attended on time. I have been kept informed throughout the process by the Dyson admin team both by phone and letter. The fitters turned up as promised at 8am promptly. they have tidied up, protected the floors with sticky plastic floor coverings and couldn't have been more amenable. I had to go out for a short while during the installation but the fitters rang me on my mobile while I was out just to clarify a point with me. The job was finished within a few hours. i spent a lot of time researching different providers of the free boiler scheme and my conclusion was that most providers offer the Ideal Logic boiler as this is the one supplied under the scheme. Having spoken to plumber friends the boiler has been recommended and has won some awards, I don't think it is reasonable to expect top of the range boilers to be fitted under a free scheme but I'm sure this will do the job just fine. Dyson also advised me that if I had any doubts about reliability I could purchase a 5 year warranty direct from Ideal for £99 although it comes with a 2 year guarantee anyway. I am grateful that this scheme was available and am very happy.0

I have just had a new boiler fitted by Dyson (for EDF) and they were great. It was going to be a complicated installation as the old boiler is in the basement and the new one was to go in the first-floor airing cupboard. The 4 fitters/electricians arrived at 8am (although they were outside the house at 7!) and realised the original survey was flawed and the boiler could not safely vent through the roof. They went all over the house and decided on an alternative site. This involved lots more pipework, carpet and floorboards up in 4 rooms as well as re-routing gas, water and electrics. The work was carried out efficiently and they cleared up each day. Copious amounts of coffee and biscuits were consumed!
Because our initial application was made over 6 months ago (delays caused by EDF's audit procedure) and our house was rated F, all extra costs have been bourne by EDF. Our 30 year-old boiler was deemed so inefficient that the cost of the installation was offset by the cash and carbon savings that would be achieved by replacing it with a new boiler.
They forgot to give me my warranty registration card for the new boiler, but that was easily registered on the Ideal website. Also, due to H & S, they have not removed the old (very heavy) boiler as access is only by steep stairs.
It has been a stressful couple of days, but the guys from Dyson were very personable and dealt with everything in their stride!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
I am just posting this reply after reading some of the articles from quite frankly extremely ungrateful greedy people who seem to think they should be allowed to choose what boiler they get on the eco scheme. I can't believe the odassity of these people you should be thankful you are getting a virtually free boiler. I'll bet if i was to offer you a free small car you would moan that you couldn't get all you're shopping from next in it as well as you're family, and why oh why didn't the government tell the energy companies to give you a nice large people carrier.
You may not think so but i am very much in favour of helping people who really need it and if you really needed it you wouldn't have time to moan about which make of boiler you were getting.
As you can guess i am fed up of things getting handed to people who don't even need them and they have the hard neck to moan about it.As for the original complainer if he had had a shed in the road and this was the only route the pipe could have taken i suppose he would have been complaining that they should have moved the shed. Also the other person with the hole in the wall and they couldn't match the bricks come on give me a damn break.
Did they not have that same 70's wall paper you've got either.
All grow up and stop moaning about trivial matters when you are receiving and i will repeat it again a virtually free boiler.0 -
Bit of an old thread but wished to add comment. My friend had a boiler installed by Dyson and the lads were superb. The boiler is an Ideal and he's chuffed to bits with it. In response to an earlier post, they take pictures of your house as an epc is required. Their is a file attached to that which states the carbon emitted which is roundly why you are getting your boiler FREE! Many people are quick to complain but slow to praise.0

Applied for the grant and I was informed on 6/10/15 that I had got it. This was after an initial phone call and home visit by a surveyor. Both the phone call and the surveyor said that it would be fitted by British Gas and that there would be a charge of up to £250 for modifications to the Gas supply etc. Possibly understandable but within my means
As I had not heard anymore by the 19th Oct- I contacted Just Eco who said it was in hand with Dyson. Phoned them for further details only to be told there is a charge of £1,000 for fitting.
Dyson have not been out to view the boiler and is not the company I was told would fit it.
Now going on this thread- I have a feeling that a scam is being worked. Dyson do not seem to have many followers and at a cost of £1,000 I will not be having a new boiler to replace my old decrepit one that I was led to believe would happen. £250 is affordable. £1,000 is not so
100% BOILER GRANT--forget it.0 -
Just an answer to those knocking those of us that have applied for a grant for a Free Boiler. It is not free. All of us are paying a levy on our fuel from all suppliers that is then set aside to fund this grant. If you qualify and do not claim then you are not taking advantage of what you are already paying for and will continue to pay in the future.0

I believe this is a huge SCAM too! Was told I would need to contribute about £250 to £400 and now been told I need to pay £1018 upfront. Am ringing two local gas engineers today for a quote for them to install as two friends have said it would only be around £1300 anyway. As I have had no hot water or heating since September I cannot wait any longer. Feel like I've just been strung along with the hope of getting help when in fact it is all just a big shambles0
