Beware of EON/Dyson Heating Services `Free' Boiler ECO/Affordable Warmth scheme!

Hi, I have a question for E.ON Company Representative: Malc :
After filling out an online form with Eon months ago, I eventually received a call a couple of weeks ago. I answered lots of questions and was told I may qualify for a new boiler. My partner had a call a few days ago to arrange assessment but was told we may not qualify as they only now replace broken boilers. I have checked the Eon website and this now states the same. Have the rules now been changed? I thought this scheme was all about the government wanting energy efficiency. My boiler does work but is really old. I have contacted my landlord about this, have I just wasted mine and his time?:xmastree::xmassign: :xmastree:0 -
Hi nnik
Sorry for the late reply.
With schemes like Affordable Warmth, all applications are considered individually.
At the moment, under this scheme, if a boiler is broken or faulty we'll look to either replace or repair it. This is provided the applicant is eligible under the terms of the scheme.
The outcome will be subject to a Gas Safe engineer looking at the boiler and will be checked in line with Ofgem guidelines. We can't give any cast iron guarantees ahead of an assessment.
I certainly don't feel you or your landlord are wasting your time as the assessment is free and may be beneficial, especially given the age of your boiler.
Hope this helps and sorry again for the late reply.

I am attempting to arrange the survey and installation of a boiler for my uncle. I am in touch with Eon, having already tried another route to a listed supplier of this scheme for those on pension credit, etc. The first attempt resulted in being informed that only Ideal boilers were supplied and that the company fitting this would need to charge an additional £500. When this was queried, they offered to do the extra work (replacing lead piping) for £250! This aroused our suspicions, so we tried another source of this 'free boiler' scheme. Eon have so far been very pleasant and prompt, with an appointment made for a locally based company to visit and conduct a survey. However, again, they are only offering an Ideal boiler! What is going on here? We are so suspicious that this scheme is being used to offload boilers that don't work as efficiently or as reliable as alternatives such as Worcester Bosch, which my uncle would prefer. In addition, my uncle has spoken first hand to two independent sources, who say they would not touch Ideal boilers. So it rather seems that unless you are prepared to go with Ideal, you are in for either extra cost, or no installation at all. I really don't know what to advise my uncle now. Any ideas would be most gratefully appreciated.0

I would like to point out that I work for Dyson I am not in any way a spokesman for the company but a few points made in this thread seem a bit one sided , first of all Ideal boilers , i worked on a contract with a previous company at the beginning of the year we where fitting 105 ideal logic boilers a week I was involved with that level of installation numbers for several months they had been fitting forty boilers a week for months before that in total 1500 boilers installed they never once had to call out an engineer, i would take anything you read about them with a pinch of salt , the contributions to installation the utility companies do provide funding for free boiler installation it is worked out the basis that one boiler is changed for another the extra cost of additional works outwith that is not covered in the funding that is why customers are sent out an estimate of the cost in advance of the job it is the same rule for all companies mostly it is regarding undersized gas pipes or say the customer wants there boiler repositioned , if you go into the garage to have your clutch changed then they tell you the gearbox needs replaced would you expect them to it you a free gearbox , I understand where people are coming from on the previous posts if anyone wants any advice on eco installation feel free to post and I will do my best to help.0

I just read earlier posts by azurepurple it clearly states on the Eon terms & conditions that a contribution from the customer may be necessary if any alterations need to be made or words to that effect , i also read the Scottish Power terms & they clearly state the same information therefore I would suggest readers of this thread look at facts not one just one sided comment , everything in life these days asks you to read terms & conditions they are there to stop such tales slating a very good idea which is helping lots of people & is creating much needed employment in many areas of the country as I Said aim here to help not criticise I hope i have not came across that way I have merely stated some hard facts.0

100 or so for a boiler seems cheap, they cost like a car when they need doing. Worry about it going wrong and who pays, 100 is like a tip in comparison
*I dont believe anything is free really, sounds better then full price though0 -
hi malc I am new on here so don't really know what I am doing but I just need some advice I am with your company for my gas and electric I used to be covered by british gas for boiler insurance due to being on long term sick I had to cancel it
I now have a problem with my boiler and have looked on your site about insurance but nowhere can I find out whether I can be insured because I already have a fault on my boiler if you can understand me I would be grateful if you could advise me thankyou corrina0 -
Hi Corrina
I'm afraid we don't provide a boiler service anymore.
This part of the company has been sold and is now known as Home Energy Services Limited.
You may still see E.ON branded paperwork and engineers in E.ON vans and uniforms for a while though. This will eventually change to the new company.
They'll also remain on our website for a time, too, if you need any more info.
Sorry I can't help any further on this one Corrina.

I have seen some posts on here saying that the Ideal Logic is unreliable.
There is nothing wrong with the Logic. It is a quality product with a good reputation. In fact Ideal have just won a Queens Award.
I worked for Ideal in the dark days of the Isar, and that product did have issues, but the Logic cannot be tarred with the same brush as the Isar. Do your homework before commenting on a product you know nothing about.0 -
:(hello malcolm from eon. i am new to this so not sure how to tag you so you see this message.
i really need some help from someone. i have just come across this while looking up about problems with people getting a new boiler.
i contacted eon back in july as my boiler is not working at all. so i have no hot water or heating, i have boiler break down cover which told me i was not covered because the problem was from sludge in the system.
anyway so i applied for the new boiler. i was contacted by a really nice friendly and helpful man who told me someone would come out to do the assesment in the next few weeks. however i heard nothing and kept phoneing up. finally got my assesment about 3 weeks ago, which i was supposed to hear back from in 2 weeks or so. so i phoned last week and this week and every time i phone they keep telling me the will chase it up and call me back. heard nothing this week or last week.
This is getting really frustrating, i just want some answers. i have no heating or hot water. it's getting cold now and i'm just really worrying that this is going to go on and on. especially reading these other posts now.
I have got two children so please if you can help or give me some advice??
thank you0
