I use Windows Live Mail to access my hotmail/outlook accounts now.
    Mozilla Thunderbird is another alternative.

Thanks for this - I've now set up Windows Live Mail to access my main Hotmail account and it is MUCH better. However I also have a Hotmail alias and when I set this up on Windows Live Mail even though under properties it has the correct email address it shows the content of the main account - any ideas? Edit - The alias account was hiding in the junk folder of the main account, I've now moved it so it can be seen - all good.

I can access my Hotmail through Live Mail but I'm still getting the dots going across the top and it's very slow and takes an age to open every e-mail and to send any. Is it any quicker those who have changed to gmail?
Still getting the message "Can't connect to Outlook" on Windows Live Mail. This is so bad - how can they do this to us?
    It's 5 o'clock somewhere!

It's been sooo slow all this week now, I keep thinking about moving but logically I feel Microsoft just have to sort this out very soon surely?

I have been having slow hotmail loading problems for a few weeks.
Yesterday I decide to investigate the settings option to see if there was anything to help.

Just by chance under More email settings.Reading Pane I selected show on right & show message when I select it.

I don't know if it is just coincidence but since then my email page loads instantly in both Google & IE browsers.

Perhaps someone else could try this & report result.

I can't say I have noticed any problems with it.

Outlook.com is more intense on resources than Hotmail as they have used completely different coding to run the site, so on the whole it will be a bit slower. However this is the price with having a world where ultrafast internet leaves slower connections behind :(

It's been particularly awful all day. I've had phone calls from 3 different people.
The joys of online email. Please don't have one of these as your business email.

Any company using a hotmail/gmail etc account wont be getting my business!

Considering you can get a .co.uk / .com for as little as £3 a year theres no reason for any company to use a free email address.

I've now defected to gmail and will update my email address on an ongoing basis. Have managed to set it up to receive my hotmail messages so should be a relatively pain free switchover.

Shame but couldn't stand it anymore!

I've had a Hotmail account for about 8 years. Never had a problem. Now, it's just hopeless.
