That you know about...Hmmm, yet I've never had a virus or similar on any machine other than the one that was running Vista... Bizarre, eh?
Seriously, without wanting to be a scaremonger, there's so much rubbish out there that you should really keep your Operating System (Windows, OSX, Linux, iOS, Android, Windows Mobile etc) up to date, at least with security updates.
Anti Virus companies (whether you have to pay for the software or not) live off the fear people have of having their computers affected. OS writers don't, and indeed would want to boast about how few updates they issue as a sign of their OS being more secure in the first place. Do you think they write and issue these updates for free just for fun?0
