DPF- Hope i have the abbreviation correct....

Diesel particulate filters are not as specific to an engine as an exhaust gas recirculating valve is. The DPF goes in the exhaust line to the tailpipe which is more general and the EGR valve is fitted to the exhaust manifold, which is much more engine design related. This means the likelihood of a suitable DPF not being available is quite limited.Hoping this year is better than the last.0

To go completely off on a tangent....
These DPF thingies trap soot & when required burn it off during regeneration.
Given it's scientific fact that you can't destroy matter, merely alter it, what comes out of the exhaust during the regen process?
If, like I think, the DPF only stores pollutants to then emit them to the atmosphere in another form.... what's the point?
The point is that the large soot particles that would otherwise be emitted, lodge in your lungs and give you cancer are trapped then burnt off during regeneration to form much smaller ash particles that don't.

Within the SCR catalyst, the NOx are catalytically reduced by the ammonia (NH3) into water (H2O) and nitrogen (N2), which are both harmless; and these are then released through the exhaust.
Some larger partials get stuck in the DPF, yes with regeneration this can be burnt out but not completely . Now there are companies out there cleaning lorry dpf as they clean them out using air or specially designed cleaning baths . My question is once again has anyone ever had any luck cleaning car dpf's them selfs . If you u-tube dpf cleaning you will see Peoria pressure washing them out ! Will this work ??0 -
I know someone that did. I mentioned on this board before and it didn't get a very good reaction.
To my knowledge he is the only person ever to manage to clog a DPF on his make of car. He did it by by driving his the car in limp mode for a couple of weeks. In limp mode the normal regeneration cycle is turned off.0 -

Less things to worry about, and you gain some throttle response.
Just save the hassle and buy a petrol..0 -

The soot is turned into ash.
Ash is what clogs your dpf over time.
In Lgvs and Buses the filters are cleaned as part of regular maintenance, one reason they are easier to access on these vehicles.
Ceramex have done lgvs and buses for years and now dpfgenie are offering similar services.
Both have their own way to assess the filter condition before and after cleaning.
You will only do a short term fix by using a high pressure washer to clean the filter aswell as causing pollution.
The one fact ignored by those who focus on the reduction in particulate emissions is the fact that a dpf equipped diesel uses an awful lot more fuel than a non dpf version of the same vehicle.
As an example.
A Euro 3 Nissan Pathfinder auto will crack 30mpg overall.
A Euro 4 Nissan Pathfinder auto will struggle to do more than 23 mpg overall.
From memory the Euro 4 is slightly less powerful, i am sure the Euro4 had 171 and the Euro3 had 174.
But i haven't double checked that and I read it when buying my 08 Pathfinder back in 2011.
It is also not completely true that all particulates are stopped by the dpf.
When doing the smoke test there were a few puffs of soot from my Pathfinder. Emissions still well within limits though.
The Jag tailpipe is still clear though.
So perhaps the technology is getting more.efficient?
Both vehicles have similar mileage.
