take copies, put one through every door in the block with a note "if anyone knows who left this on my bin, please let me know as the police are very interested to discuss with them the threats towards me & my property." :D

    This.

And if you feel so inclined, have a word with your local plod to see if the note constitutes any offence that he/she can be charged with.

Sorry not been back to this thread.

Yes all our bins are numbered. Things have settled down, no more notes and bin lock is still in one piece.

Actually some nice neighbour actually brought my bin in off the street the other day. :)
    Smile, you are beautiful:)

This whole "It's my bin" thing beats me. Why do we need individual, his&hers, bins?

Why not just council owned, communal bins? Especially in blocks of flats, but even in houses.

A big communal one at the endof each street, discretely screened, would make collection easier/cheaper and hardly be a hardship. (Might need some system for the elderly I spose....)

And avoid all this possessive agro over.... a bin!

Well, certainly in my neighbourhood it is because bin capacity is at a premium - my family regularly generates more rubbish than we have bin space to store it in. Hence why I undertake regular trips to the municipal waste reprocessing facility (ie the 'dump') to get rid of our excess. I would be extremely annoyed if these trips needed to be more frequent & onerous because my neighbours were making use of our bin!

I once had a dead cat dumped in my wheelie-bin it wasn't on bin day they had to come through my gate and up the path to do it. Thank god I'm out of there even the dogs went round in pairs. lol

In this particular block it seems to be because the owner of "the bin" is responsible for "putting it out" for collection, rather than the bin men collecting from a communal area.

As an habitual buyer of flats, this type of arrangement would be a deal breaker for me.

Having suffered all of the leasehold hassle, I want something back.
