Cheap Car Hire - hiring a baby car seat

flying to Milan Bergamo in June and will need a child seat for my 18 month old. Any tips? I notice on ebookers you can request one but it doesn't mention payment. Any experience of them?

I'm trying to compare child seat prices on American car rental sites for a 20 day rental and finding it really difficult - it seems to be information they don't feel the need to reveal until you reach the collection desk. By emailing/tweeting them the most expensive quote I've got is $400 for two seats for 20 days, so it is a significant proportion of the cost of the rental, and seems nuts to "wait and see". And in any case I'm not even sure I trust the answers I'm getting. eg. one Alamo rep told me "Sorry, we don't supply child seats at that airport location" whereas the person on Alamo's Twitter account said "Of course we supply child seats at $20/day with no cap".
Holidayautos.com gives child seat prices for all providers, but the price quoted is different than the one I'm getting from the providers I've contacted, and holidayautos have a huge disclaimer saying "prices may change without notice".
There must be an easier way to find this information out?

Take your own whenever possible. We hired a few years back at Malaga airport and the seats were thrown in the back of a portacabin type thing. And when I say thrown I mean thrown.

We have taken both ours (rotating ones which weigh 12kg each, so pretty heavy) with no problem at all.


This has been on all manner of flights, all the way from BA First class right down to Easyjet.


Always been free. Just pack in a very large and strong plastic bag - we use the ones that mattresses get delivered in.

We flew to London Luton and found no car hire company offering free child seats so I searched for a local supermarket and found an Asda very close. I got the car, nipped to Asda, bought two cheap seats at £18 each and then back to get the wife and two small kids. It took me about 20 minutes in total. I checked with the store the day before and asked them to hold me two over which they did.
