Dyson - a big thumbs UP !

Most of the parts on the Dyson are replaceable (according to Customer Services) so it's worth giving them a call, they're not necessarily shown on the website. The bin release catch on our Dyson DC01 De Stijl had broken and I thought I was going to need a new cleaner. But the part was only about £6 and was fairly easy to change. I was well pleased with Dyson.0

Dyson CS are brilliant...
In the past 3 years we have had a service and had the main motor replaiced (just because it was getting very hot - no actuall problem though) the cable wind motor and a full service for free...
we've also had the main head replaiced and when the sent the wrong one the sent the right one and said just keep the other one !... also they replaced the telescopic pole after i pulled it apart (oooops!) and we've had a new main dust collecting bucket thing after i dropped it on the path empting in into the bin!!!
all in all blooming brilliant CS
and i've just renewed my contract thingie tonight!!!0 -
just want to add to the praise for dyson.
the catch on the bin of my dyson was broke, I thought Id need a new bin so ordered one and paid £20 however is still wouldn't seal. Contacted customer services who explained the problem was with another part of my machine ie a catch in the drum and that they could send me this part but it cost £32 when I was unsure the lovely lady said on this occassion we will send this to you with no charge.....Fantastic and my dyson is not in warranty, absolutely brilliant as my original order was the wrong order to start with, my mistake :T0 -
Another big thumbs up form me too :T
Dyson DC07 wasn't picking up too well and kept cutting out, so cleaned the filter. Put it back in and switched on expecting all to be fine. Was greeted with a very unhealthy grinding noise and plooms of smoke.... oh dear, bang goes the vac as it's out of warranty being nearly three years old.
Called Dyson on the off chance they might be able to offer advice. Expected lots of 'press 1 for this...' as with most customer service lines, but was put straight though to a really nice fella who diagnosed a faulty motor. With no warranty or insurance I expected him to try and either sell me a replacement or send out an engineer with extortionate fees.
But no, "No problem sir, let's see how we can fix this free of charge for you. How does Tuesday sound for an engineer to visit and replace the motor? Just call us at 9am on Tuesday to find out what time the engineer will be with you."
Fantastic!!0 -
I too had a couple of problems with my dc07, phoned the cs dept, got a great chap, who took me through their diagnostic test, I got sent a new cyclone unit free ( was still in guarantee though) but no proof of purchase was asked for. Next time my tube fractured and by this time it was just out of guarantee, was sent a new one wih full instructions how to fit it and told to phoe again if any problems., he also sent engineer out as my motor kept cutting out - he services it and fitted new motor for free -took their extended warantee as it would be the same guy would come out .
Well done Dyson!!!!! :beer:No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

I am also very impressed with Dyson. I needed to replace a couple of parts and I ordered them of Ebay and thought everything was okay. However, a little plastic tube (internal hose) that runs at the bottom of my Dyson split open and the Dyson refused to suck up properly. So went onto Ebay again, looked at a the little pictures, and couldn't find this part anywhere. I then rung Dyson to ask for this part. I had no idea what the part was called and the man on the other end of the phone had to listen to my pathetic descriptions. Believe me he must have had the patience of a saint. When we finally got to the bottom of the problem the man offered to mail the part out to me free of charge. He also guided me through removing the old part and waited on the phone until I had completed the task. What an exceptional company. :O)0

I have a DC 04 and i think the only original part I have from when i bought it is the motor!
EVERYTIME I rang up with something broke, they sent me a new one FOC!
OnceI was using the hoover during a loft conversion so you can imagine the dust, and it kept cutting out, so I rang them, they explained that it was all the dust was clogging up the filters, so it was working harder, just to clean the filter every day! Which i did and it worked.
1 week later got a parcel from dyson with some free filters in and saying 'good luck with the loft'
How amazing is that! Love them!0 -
Anyone have the number for Dyson? My hoover is not picking up anymore either.
I have the upright model? cant remember the model number.. any ideas?MFWB

I have never used their customer services as my dc04 absolute was loyal enough to the Fuhrer to wait for two years and eight months before it started to play up.
The first thing to go was the motor;black smoke everywhere followed by quick death. I sent off for a new motor (£38) and then realised I needed a torx screwdriver to dismantle the thing (£1.99 from local ironmonger). Got on the web and found a page on dismantling it but it was still quite tricky.
Eventually, I stuck in the new motor and away I went again until a couple of weeks later when I noticed it was quite difficult to push along the carpet. On turning it over it seemed that the outer covering on the little rollers on the soleplate had worn away causing it to be too close to the floor. I went to the local repair shop and was told that instead of replacing the five little rollers (approx cost 10p) I had instead to order a new soleplate (£18+). I don't think so, thought I, so I stripped some cable off an old battery wire and with the use of boiling water to soften the plastic sheath I eventually had five acceptable rollers.
Next thing to go was the handle of the wand, which just snapped, closely followed by the hose, which tore. I have just in the last couple of days heard the dreaded death-rattle of the clutch. Realising that this silly little bit was going to cost about £20 to replace, I decided to take it to bits, and by sticking a bit of cardboard behind the clutch plate to take up the wear I now seem to have it working again.
I have also had the switch go which involved trying to remove the switch cover without breaking it...much,much frustration. There have also been several other small niggles occuring at regular intervals.
Anyway, with regard to all the comments about Dyson's great customer service, all I can say is I would hope it would be good too, given the extortionate price of what is essentially a cheap motor and a few bits of plastic. I don't know what the unit cost of a Dyson is once R&D and profits are removed from the equation, but I'd be surprised if the latest "ball" were to cost more than £30 to assemble in low-wage Malasia. That leaves about £300 for advertising, the middle men, the supposedly high tech research, and Slim Jim's pina coladas.
It doesn't surprise me in the least that Dyson's troop of lovable call-centre bonobos are being kept happy with a sizeable pile of cashews and chocolate brazils. After the PR disaster of moving manufacturing jobs to the far east I'm sure he needs all the good (i.e. non traiterous) publicity that he can get.
P.s. In contrast to this under-engineered, fault-ridden, serial sicky, I have owned another vacuum cleaner for about 15 years without a single problem. Indeed, it had been relegated to cleaning out the car, but I was glad of its heroic toughness on several occasions when the drippy Dyson wimped out.0 -
Following all the posts on this thread I called Dyson today and they agreed to replace apart on my hoover as a gesture of good will even though the warranty had expired!.
Am waiting for my part which will take 3 working days!
Thumbs up to Dyson..:dance:MFWB
